I think you're asking how to select which keywords to target?

Research.

Search each keyword individually (I just do it in Google) and do some background investigations on the top 10 sites, maybe even top 20 if that's your goal. Look at the PR, types of backlinks they have, how they're optimized for the keywords, how many internal pages they have (how big), etc. You will notice a lot of the same sites ranking for various keywords.

Then bring it down to typically 2-3 keywords per page for your site. The more prominent pages optimizing for the keywords with the most search volume.

 

If you have a product, see which keywords are most relevant to that product, and choose those. Those keywords are quite pricey so make sure that if your budget is limited, set a daily budget.

 

It really all depends on why you are selecting these keywords. If you are targeting Adsense traffic using SEO to get higher click through amounts for your Adsense earnings then that is great.

However, if you are targeting those keywords based on the dollar value of the average click then it really has no value to you…unless you have a product or have affiliated with a company that has a product that a good match for those keywords.

I like to target my keywords based on the strategy that I plan to use in terms of converting that traffic into product sales or affiliate commissions.
