Why do you want to purchase when there are many free premium themes available on the internet ? If you are looking for quality themes, you can try for REVOLUTION themes. They are too good.

played with that theme , it is good, their support is awesome too

That is a very good question.
FREE themes are actually more expensive than Premium themes when you think about it.

There are many reasons why you would want to buy here is a few of them

    1. Quality and More Creative Designs

    2. Quick Upgrades to The Latest Version of Wordpress

    3. Theme Support & Forum knowledge database

    4. FREE PR4 backlink & traffic from showcase gallery

    5. Make Money as an affiliate by linking back to the author of the design in the footer, similar to Hosting. If they like Your theme they will be curious, what is it, and where you got it.

I always purchase premium themes. They usually have a better design, as well as a lot more customization in the back-end. This is extremely useful if you don't know a lot about code, since a lot of premium themes come with various stylesheets for different color schemes.

    Few recommendations:

    WooThemes
    StudioPress
    Headway

the reasons for buying premium ones are, support, version upgrades (wp, plugins, etc.), no hidden/spam links on footer, and many more.

I created my own theme (home cinema) and put a link in the footer, then submitted it too 100 directories and it boosted my main site in SERPs, this is something I couldn't do with a free theme. I used it to get a minimum of 100 backlinks, I didnt encrypt it as people who download it can either remove my links (which would be against the terms of use) but some do - that's life.

I would consider buying one only if it helps me in increasing adsense CTR.Does anyone know a professional adsense optimized theme.

I always buy themes. Free themes come with too many limitations and problems, no support, bad coding, footer (and other hidden) links, unimaginative designs, and so on.

As cheap as themes are today, I don't see any reason not to buy from a professional designer.
I only use free themes for starter projects or blogs that I don't have time to develop just yet. There is nothing worse than using a free theme, only to find that the author is not around anymore when you need support, or doesn't work with the latest version of WP or a plug in.

I purchased some woo thehemmes and super press theme.

Woo themes were very good with respect to design, but they were consuming lot of server resources.
I wanted something that loads very fast without much load on server.
So i designed my own theme and made it available for free and i got lot of
    appreciation :D

You can find more info about it here
    http://swiftthemes.com/2009/08/wordpress-themes/swift-the-fastest-loading-wordpress-theme/

Trust me, after seeing this theme you will definitely reconsider buying a premium theme.

It's a nice theme. Good Job, but it's not going to make me not buy anymore themes..that's a pretty big statement.

I don't know what kind of hosting plan you have, or what company you are using, but I have never had a draw on resources because of a theme. Plug ins, Scripts, and Images..YES, but not a theme design.

That's the first time i have ever heard that.

I dint say that you will stop buying premium themes, I said you will reconsider your idea of buying a premium theme.

A theme can considerably affect your loading time, if you have large number of vistors.
If there are toomany images used as background, they will increrase the number of http requests and its like hammering the server for each image.

And the fancy thumbnail resize scripts also consume lot of resources.

I bought Thesis. Not only did it make my blog look great, but it is easy to customize and my SEO has never been better. Seriously, if you can put out $87 for a single license then you will NOT regret it!
