Feature Phone Verification...

There is a new option that users of Buy/Sell/Trade might find useful...

We will now authenticate you against your phone number. You enter your phone number, we will call you and give you a 4 digit PIN for you to enter on the site. Enter the PIN correctly, and voila! we verified your phone number and your account is tagged as such.

We also are able to pinpoint where your phone is as well as the TYPE of phone you have. See this page for my record:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/phone.php?u=1

Click the icon and you can see the phone I verified is a VOIP phone. We can also tell the difference between all sorts of phones... land lines, mobiles, prepaid mobiles, payphones, etc.

Hopefully this will give some users wtihin Buy/Sell/Trade an extra fluffy feeling of security when they can see sellers have a real phone number or some disposable phone number.

I think people will probably realize that there's more value than just having a thread at the top of the page, but rather the "bigger picture" of identifying business people you can trust.

I'd say that a verified phone number on this forum could be perceived as having the equivalent value of 100 itraders.

That's ridiculous. A phone verification in no means deserves an iTrader, let alone 100. Maybe one at the most. You earn iTrader. Anybody could verify their phone number and get 100 iTrader. You still would have no idea who you were dealing with and those iTraders would then be worthless.

Huh? No one implied you get iTraders from phone verification.

Worth = in their own mind. Not automatically received. :)

It will only reduce fraud for those who choose to do business with a phone-verified member. It won't reduce the fraud that occurs elsewhere. But you can see the attraction of doing business with someone who has that extra "trust" level.

Not really... there are actual costs involved every time you do it. Plus it's 100% optional.

Phone verification is good step ahead , which makes the buyer realize that seller is not afraid to verify his personal information like a cellphone number.

That being said, it cannot be compared with Itrader.

John doe may have a verified phone number, but that does not help anyone if he is good at a particular service he is selling here on DP. It is only the Itrader which may help the buyer to evaluate if he is good at what he is trying to sell.

Whats the privacy Policy regarding the phone number etc.? Its Ok to be phone verified, buts its not okay if its posted all over the forum or even if 10 humans have access to it. Other than you, who all can see the phone number? Will it be made public/available for calling?

I was wondering when the phone number data for a member moves from private

to other members having access to it?

Like if their is a transaction dispute between members over something in b/s/t section does that mean digital point will act as a mediator and give out the phone number if requested? who and when can someone else get your phone number?

Otherwise what is the point of knowing someone has verified their phone number when someone will probably find away around it like other PVA that get sold and not use their real phone number

will it help get our money back from them if they scam us..........

I'm curious as to what would happen if someone from country X gets a phone number for country Y and his phone verification shows his location as Y?
    That defeats the purpose dunnit?

With mobile phones or VOIP this will be unevitable. But the cost of verification will be discouraging small time scammers, though...

Might expand it to support SMS also, but it doesn't support it at the moment.
