interesting tips guys thanks for the info, ive been using mainly social bookmarking but really going to look into articles especially in the coming weeks

 

I am totally agree,

I have a website which got almost 80% traffic from forums only, and unfortunately the same technique is not applicable to my other websites in different niche

Another website of mine got its traffic mostly from socialbookmarking sites (a bit odd but that's what happens).

So once again I have to say that your traffic really depends on your niche.

You basically get traffic from 3 major sources:

1. Referring websites - To generate traffic, tell your friends (who have sites or blogs) about your new site/blog, and ask if they can link to your blog/site. Also, you will need other sites/blogs with traffic start linking to your blog/posts. Write "useful" content, look for blogs/sites that will find your content useful, tell them about your posts, then over time they may decide to link to your blog (when appropriate).

2. Search Engines - Once you have enough links from different sources of blogs/sites pointing to your blog/posts, your blog posts will start to rank better in the search engines. For reference, also check out:

3. Direct traffic - Before of the 2 sources above, over time people have come to visit your blog and they remember your blog has great content (that interests them). People will either come back to your blog directly (by entering your site's domain name in the address bar of their browsers) or bookmark your blog and go back later.
