My inner pages outrank my index page for my main "keyword phrase" The title for the index page is same as the targeted phrase, also the keywords are present in domain name. Earlier the index page was ranking for that "keyword phrase" for 2 days on 11th position But now my index page is deep down burried in serps. Is my site is being penzalized? Why does Google consider an inner page of my site more important than the index page? . My index page have a lot more inbound links than my inner pages. Any ideas? Thanks
You can use searchenginegenie.com and find there google banned tool. You can check it there your site if it is penalized
how old is your site? what you are experiencing is pretty common for new sites. work on adding more content on your site and keep building quality backlinks
Are you or other people linking to the other parts of your site using your desired keyword? For instance, if someone links to your site saying "Find a plumbing quote here" and links to something other than your index page, that could happen. However, if your index page has dropped off the face of the earth, it's possible that you could be getting punished - have you been using illegitimate methods for linkbacks?
It's not unusual at all. There's a big possibility that you inner pages have more quality and at the same time RELEVANT backlinks pointing to those pages that's why they're outranking the index page.
I generally don't give free advice - but here's a freebe most don't know about. I'm going to bet you have outbound links on that higher ranking inner page. OR maybe on the home page. If so, what are you linking to, how relevent, and what kind of PR do that site(s) have? I have a site I just finished for a friend. The home page just started off as a PR2 and 4 sub pages started off as a PR4. I only have a couple links going to his home page NO links to any other page on his site! However, one of the pr4 pages links to a relevent PR8Government page. - food for thought - check out your outbound links. (everyone is on the No Follow kick.... well guess what, theres a little secret about linking out without nofollow that can boost your site!).
Provide your domain name, the URL of the inner page that is now ranking, and the targeted keyword phrase and perhaps you'll get an answer to your question. Otherwise people are just going to be throwing out wild guesses and sending you on all types of wild goose chases.
