Sorry Bm, but in the Uk we have had to deal with terrorism for the last 50 years over Ireland (Which incidentally was fuelled by American money donated via NORAID, but used to buy weapons from Libya and other sources).

We have had to witness atrocities for years, and just when we reach agreement over Ireland, we get dragged into this shit storm. :(

    http://www.iraatrocities.fsnet.co.uk/

The reason the UK public are getting pissed off with this is

    1. We are pissed off at being in a war in Iraq that NO ONE wanted, that was technically illegal, and that our home secretary stated would end up with the US & UK being bogged down in a protracted role which would eventually end in civil war. He resigned because of his belief (and he was right).

    2. We are currently in Afghanistan watching soldiers die while we try to rebuild their infrastructure.

    3. We do not trust our current government as far as we can throw them as they have been proved to be untrustworthy time after time.

America has another 45 years to go to get into the position the Uk is currently with regard terrorism. I pray to God you do not have to go through what we have been through.

I should state that the pro Union terrorists were also animals, but they tended to keep their actions contained in Ireland.

Most people from the US conveniently forget that when they talk about "The war on Terrorism" Under their current policy of going after the safe havens for terrorists they'd have been invading themselves.

The thing is, Many countries have suffered terrorism for long before 9/11
e.g - UK, Russia, India, Srilanka etc etc..

Its just that US felt the heat of terrorism on 9/11...

Former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan Craig Murray says the alleged transatlantic liquid bomb plot is staged-managed propaganda on behalf of Bush and Blair - who yearn for a "new 9/11" to absolve them of domestic political trouble.

Murray questions the intent and capability of the alleged terrorists to carry out the attack and offers the likelihood that evidence of the plot was obtained through torture in Pakistan.

"None of the alleged terrorists had made a bomb. None had bought a plane ticket. Many did not even have passports, which given the efficiency of the UK Passport Agency would mean they couldn't be a plane bomber for quite some time," says Murray.

"In the absence of bombs and airline tickets, and in many cases passports, it could be pretty difficult to convince a jury beyond reasonable doubt that individuals intended to go through with suicide bombings, whatever rash stuff they may have bragged in internet chat rooms."

"Then an interrogation in Pakistan revealed the details of this amazing plot to blow up multiple planes - which, rather extraordinarily, had not turned up in a year of surveillance. Of course, the interrogators of the Pakistani dictator have their ways of making people sing like canaries. As I witnessed in Uzbekistan, you can get the most extraordinary information this way. Trouble is it always tends to give the interrogators all they might want, and more, in a desperate effort to stop or avert torture. What it doesn't give is the truth."

Murray describes the alert as "more propaganda than plot," and points out that of all the Muslim terror suspects who have been charged, 80% have been acquitted and only 2% have ever been convicted on offenses related to terrorism.

According to the press this morning some more of the suspects will be released tomorrow. Looks like it could be another PR disaster.

Don't forget to mention Pakistan here. Look at the statistics and you will come to know that Pakistan is the one country that had the most terrorist attacks than any other country in the whole world

The INSTANT they announced on the news that they wanted extra time for questioning, I knew it was all a load of bollocks. If people had bombs, then they would be charged, not questioned.

Assuming they're never charged the damage has already been done. They've (bush and blair) already got their widespread news coverage, and airline mania.. and once again have all the conservatives reminded they should be scared of their shadow... and how terrible muslims are.

Sort of like the "cell phone" terorrists who are being arrested without violating a single law, accused of terrorism, and then just let go.

So the system worked in favor of them? Even though

and cell phones can easily be used to trigger bombs, they were let go. Just like when someone with initial ties to a bank robbery are arrested, then later determined not to be involved, they are let go. America is truly a wonderful country! :D

Round up the usual suspects. Due process. Yes, America is a truly wonderful country. Not perfect, but better than any I know, especially the criminal justice system.

Yeh it really is, and you can clearly see who supports it

Round up the "usual" muslim suspects and arrest them, then after you determine you're a complete jackass for stereotyping them, you let them go without charges.

What was that about history repeating itself?

Really? How so? You are old enough to remember Nazi Germany?

The US criminal justice system, our goverment and due process under the law here is anything but "reminiscent of Nazi Germany".

What a terrible thing to say. Are you ok?
