    follow up question.
    My site has a lot of out going links but to competing sites. So I have put no follow on all of them. Does this also affect my site's rankings?

    outgoing links with nofollow will not affect any more to your site. just try to keep the outgoing links lower, as it affects to page ranks

    It is perfectly alright if you have no external link in your website, it will protect your website from PR drain.:p

    The way I understand it ( Correct me if Im wrong guys) You dont want any outgoing links on your home page they will affect page rank. You can have other pages with outgoing links like a reccomended resources page. If you have to have an outgoing link on your homepage than you need to no-follow it.

    It is ok. No one forces you to give backlink to any sites. It is totally depending on you. Surely, the value of your link will be high. Those who gets a backlink from you should receive good portion of PR share if it is dofollow and high PR.

    Either Nofollow or dofollow links doesn't help your ranking. The PR value on nofollow links will be flushed away. Try to read www.mattcutts.com/blog/pagerank-sculpting/ for better understanding on value of nofollow and dofollow links.
