What Domain Should I Use?

    G'day There

I am in a bit of a dilema with my website, and I am hoping some of you might be able to provide me with some advice on what domain name I should be using.

My site is www.atrec.com.au . ATREC stands for Australian Thoroughbred Racing Employment Centre, which is just a website, and the site is basically a job listing website for the horse racing industry.

The site has been up and running for a few years now and is ranking well in google. The problem I have got however is that ATREC isn't really a descriptive word, so it is difficult to market the website, as you have to continually explain what it stands for.

Anyway, I have recently purchased another domain, which is www.racingjobs.com.au and I am trying to work out what domain name I should use.

On one hand, www.atrec.com.au is already established and some people are already aware of its branding, and it is a shorter domain name.

On the other hand though, www.racingjobs.com.au would be easier to market as it is self explanatory.

Any advice you can provide would be much appreciated, as www.racingjobs.com.au would be easier to market in the future, but is it going to undo all the work we have done for branding and working our way up in google rankings?

    Cheers

    Jake

If i'm in your case, then i wouldnt make any changing on www.atrec.com.au which already established and it represent your "company". It is better to use the new domain www.racingjobs.com.au for your blog and link them up. Just my 2cents

If ATREC is working for you and ranking well in Google, you probably don't want to mess with that.

I'd set up racingjobs as a 301 to ATREC and then market which ever URL is best for each advertising medium or channel. All traffic winds up on ATREC so you don't need to change anything or migrate servers and you get the marketing/branding boost from the racingjobs name.

I think www.racingjobs.com.au is better then the one you currently using. Its descriptive and also easily marketable. Above all easy to remember.

racingjobs.com.au would make the most sense if you were just starting out but now that you have an established site that is doing well I wouldnt change anything.

    Hi,

I think you can concentrate on Atrec is a perfect fit for you. As you have already established, it is easy to gain more useful visitors than just like that visitors. Please concentrate on this domain and make racingjobs.com.au as your next site and concentrate to link them both to gain more visitors.

You can redirect the old domain to the new one in the first stage.Maybe it'll bring you some loss. But if you believe
that the new domain will be more suitable and competitive in the future,it's worthwhile for you to do that.Try to
make a stable transition and reduce the loss as possible as you can.Meanwhile, try your best to promote the new
domain, and soon it'll be popular again.

    @ Jake Howard,
If I were in your position I would have tried to persist with the old domain while trying to spread it more as a brand. If you want to use new domain, you can always redirect it to your existing site.
"atrec" is easy to pronounce & remember. You are only missing keywords in domain name from SEO point of view. But as you have established it as a company, I don't think it really matters now :)

Keep atrec.com.au! Honestly, changing it at this point aint worth it...and from a marketing point of view, 'atrec' acronym looks and sounds more credible and professional than racingjobs :) You can always use RJ for some other site/blog as some members already mentioned.

Thanks for your help guys, you have really opened my eyes, and provided me with the right advice in order for me to make a decision.

I am going to stick with www.atrec.com.au as the main address and will redirect www.racingjobs.com.au . For some marketing purposes I will use www.racingjobs.com.au as it is more explanatory.

I am also go to rebrand the title of the site, instead of it being "ATREC - Australian Thoroughbred Racing Employment Centre" or "ATREC - Racing Employment" I am going to rebrand it "ATREC - Racing Jobs".

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated
