What's the deal? They are dirt cheap (many are), and they want you to host with them, but not all. Anyone buys them?
Many websites on ebay are cheaply made, or many are using free scripts or free templates. They purchase domains and upload scripts, templates, etc that are already made and sell them for a cheap price. I actually noticed this too a while a go and had to purchase one, and I was correct.
Yeah, most sites on there are garbage except for the established ones. Sitepoint is the best for buying sites (Flippa)
Buying domains on eBay can find you a great deal...But I'd be very wary of buying "established" sites there because, yes, there are many automatically generated affiliate sites that get passed off as authentic and original.
A Web site is a Web site no matter where it's listed for sale. I personally never bought anything from ebay simply because there are other places I am used to However, this doesnt mean that stuff listed on ebay are all bogus!
I've always wondered about this too. Not so much the site's content, I always assumed it was crappy, but about the domains. I see some people selling .com domains on eBay for less than $6 each! How can they make money this way? I've never bought because I always thought that they were scams or something, but the low price is so attractive, that I keep thinking that I'm passing up a ton of great deals. Anyone actually successfully bought a domain on eBay for less than $6?
Bcos 98% of them are just junk - making the seller money by selling them, if they were earning so much they would keep them? perfect for sucking in newbs Dont know about selling the domains for under cost? Maybe are domain resellers and get them at cheap rate? Alot of them are just cookie cutter, dime a dozen with sellers selling many copies of the one site with slight changes or sometimes the same. Doubt they have unqiue content or earn a slight amount of what is claimed. Often they are not properly optimised for seo either. Plus then they try to get more money from saying that you have to host the site with them for x amount of period. It takes like 30 mins for them to make up these sites. They either own a reseller hosting site or work for one to get them clients or if they are not getting money from hosting they must work on taking small profit margins per sale and rely on quantity of sales. A certain percent of site buyers will choose to keep hosting the site with them in the long term, normally at a higher than normal cost for the plan and resources they get. If you can find something cheap that you can use or flip then take advantage i guess
Assuming you can avoid using their hosting system, for 30 minutes of work 99cents are still nothing, even if the site is a duplicate of hundreds of others. I don't know, it sounds too little for a working site that is just one of many... The domains? Maybe they fell off the back of a truck?
