Is it better to write article on your own site and spread their links

    -or-

write articles related to your site for other platforms like ezine, goarticles etc.?

    I prefer both...

For example write an original blog post about something interesting for your own site. Then write a second article from scratch about the same topic as the blog post (generally shorter than the blog post) without looking at the blog post. Place one link in the body of the article back to your blog post on the same subject and a link in the author attribution box back to your home page or some other related post on your site. Submit the second article to ezinearticles.

Now you have a totally relevant article on ezinearticle.com linking back to your article about the same topic with the link text you want to rank for. If the article gets picked up by other publishers then it will get duplicated on other sites with the links back to your blog post as well (kind of like publishing a press release on-line).

well you need both i guess....

write on your site to have content, write on other site to get traffic. what do you think ppl will do if they come to your site after reading your article on the other site? they will leave your site and go back to the other site

If the article exists only on other sites, you don't get credit for the contents of the article, you simply get a few backlinks. The content is far more important, so you definitely want the articles to be on your site, and pointed to on your site as to have your source of the information or content appear as the original.

I would rather write my own article, because it will give more essence to my site

As Canonical mentioned it's really best to do both. you need the content on your site and the articles on the other sites to get the backlinks and traffic.

@thesilly1-----I think you are saying right but you can place canonical tag at your website not other website, there would be no use of canonical tag. If you are using article posting at your website first and you have content copywriting permission for that permission then you can distribute it as you desired.

Article distribution services is very important to earn quality one way links to your website and you can also get improved your website ranking along with traffic.

    Hi,

Writing contents for your website is a very good thing but your website also needs good links. So it is better to post them to other sites and also try to build links.

Booth are good and has valid reason, when you will post quality article on your own it means you have good contents and it’s king it also help you to spared back link, but when you will published your article like ezine, goarticles it will give you back link quickly which will help to increase your Page rank and traffic

Although it does depend on the quality of the article. Sometimes you may right up something quickly that, while it is a good article, may not be what you want on your own site. It still makes great back links though.

This is exactly what you can do on a daily basis to optimize your websites for search engines. They love this kind of stuff. Plus it's good for backlinks and getting some traffic. You wont get 10k visitors a day from this sort of thing, but over time it all adds up, and the more content you have on your blog the better.

Personally, I am interested in backlinks rather than casual traffic and so I write articles on ezines etc.

As a newbie, I find this very helpful. Maybe it should be a "sticky"?

Aside from building up an initial content set for my website I try to submit an equal amount of content to my website and to article directories, though I do try to make this content different.

To quote the old (well... Actually relatively new but you know what I mean) adage, 'Content is King'. It's all well and good having hundreds of backlinks to your website (and don't get me wrong, these are vitally important), but without having great content on your own visitors will take one look around and leave for good.

So yes, to answer the original question; a bit of both is best in my mind. Dedicate equal time to unique and great content for your own site and for article directories and you'll be onto a winning strategy. :)
