How much should i spend on promotion of my first directory

am new to directories and already owned one recently now about how much should i spend on its promotion to take it atleast to pr 3 and how much time should i give it daily for manual submissions, reply please am intrested in directories

For investing that money i would look at splitting it up into 5 amounts of $50 and spend each $50 on a completely different method.

It isn't going to give you tons of feedback but it might give some idea of where best to invest further amounts in the future.

Rather than spending $250 on one promotional method and finding that you got no return from it.

 

As pipes said, invest on diff methods...but first of all get your dir listed in other directories....hire any one from services section to do this job..

 

$250 is not going to help you all that much imo.. You can promote effectively with small amounts of money but one has to be both very hands on and really know what they are doing. It would take way too long to try and explain it in this thread - use the search and pull up some old threads on directory/site promotion and you should get a bunch of good ideas.

btw - promotion is not the same a page rank and page rank is not the same as promotion. With your mention of page rank in your post you seem more interested in purchasing page rank for your site than promoting your site. If all you want is page rank just go to searchenginecolossus and buy yourself a link like the big boys - though now that searchenginecolossus dropped to pr5 from pr8 on the last update the big directories like botw seem to have dropped their banners on it. I wonder why.....

You must first look forward towards the REASON of having the directory. Traffic and money will automatically attract..

 

In today’s market $25,000 to $50,000 will get you going well if used wisely.

I think you can wait and provide free tools to visitors - like free SEO Checkups, free and immediate link building system to appropriate category. Within a year you will be under 10K of alexa ranking.

 

No way. I can think of better things to do with that kind of cash.

 

it really depends on your own expectation. for me, sometimes several thousands dollars investment into one directory...

 

Probably someone that seriously wants to run their directory as a business and provide all around value to everyone.

To the OP, I'd first start by investing in adding your own quality listings so that you have content. Good editors are hard to find, but if you can find them and afford to pay them then do that first. Promoting a directory with no listings is the first step to failure IMO.

The point is not how much money you can spend/waste/give away,
it's how to use the budget.
Try to hire someone to design a wordpress theme and let's the bloggers to free download,
your directory can get free backlinks at the same time promote to the potential advertisers, haha!

 

what is the benefit of owning your own directory? It seems like allot of work I am just wondering what the potential returns are?

 

Is it a niche directory? Or does it use a category dump like 53,000 other directories.
