Where are people selling quality sites?

Flippa just seems to be rampant with mostly auto-updating crap and the quality really seems to have taken a nose dive. Besides for DP, where are people buying and selling decent sites these days?

I'm not talking about sites that are genuine businesses going for 6 figures either...just decent sites with good content and some revenue.

I've purchased two websites in the past. One was a complete success and the other was a complete bust. But you're right, I went to flippa the other day and I couldn't find anything other than trash. There were a couple of ecommerce sites that looked interesting.

My general viewpoint is that no one is going to sell a site that is profiting that doesn't have problems of some kind. I realized after I bought the one that was a success it required that I spend money for work that wasn't stated in the original sale. Still, it was a profiting website, I just don't think the original buyer knew how to go about getting the work done quickly and easily. I suspect you'll find these types of things even in the few good deals you might find, otherwise they wouldn't get rid of it.

Hard to find profitable sites to buy yourself, usually creating/managing your own will give higher income anyhow.

I have seen very few website sales that were anything but garbage. Most are people flipping..setting them up, and selling them. Not too many people sell things that are making money, especially as low as the overhead is in actually running a website compared to other businesses.
Most people selling websites these days, are selling "The Dream" to noobs who are looking for automatic passive income. Sure you can find a gem every now and then..something that looks good, has potential, and the owner has no idea what to do with it, but they are far and few in between.

You must understand that top sites are never sold publicly. Did you see thepiratebay.org up for auctions anywhere? I guess the best place now is DP. Other than DP I would say warrior forum (Mostly ready made sites with niche already chosen). There is always sedo

I forgot to mention that DN Forum still keeps it together, but it's a paid membership forum (to get into the good parts) to help keep out the riff raff.

Most of the time people are going to hold on to quality sites that are generating revenue rather then sell them.

The majority of websites for sale are of low quality so you really got to flip through them to find some good ones.

This isn't always the case. I sell small sites generating revenue from time to time as I get tired of maintaining certain ones (maybe lost interest in subject matter) and would rather get a large payout to be done with it and move on...even if I could have earned more in the long run.

I wasn't asking this question so much because I want to buy a site right now - it's more just a trend I noticed. I sell sites sometimes myself and wanted to know a quality place to list them to attract quality buyers.

Seems like all the site flipping gurus out there really made a mess of things

I think Flippa is still the best solution for finding quality sites. Also, DNF has some decent sites posted every once in a while.

flippa.com is a big joke, 99% of the auctions there are scams based on big inflated income numbers. go flippa if you want to be scammed :D

yeah could try warrior forum, there does seem to be a lack of a well known, trustworthy site for buying/selling sites that are not just templates with a few articles chucked on them and churned out a dime a dozen like at ebay :)

That is why there are buy/sell sections on forums like this one so you can probably find a few good websites for sale there. Other site that I know of is sitedeal.org, you can also look at sedo, bido, dealasite, etc. Most of these listings are just plain trash looking to sell to newbies looking to 'make money from the internet'. Most of people sell the websites because it has some associated problem with it (like not enough traffic, lack of availability of good content, etc.) so it usually takes investment in the form of time money and effort to get some cash to begin monetizing those websites.

Someone obviously needs to build a competitor to Sitepoint/Flippa. I really don't like the move to Flippa and have stopped going to their site, as have many others. It's turned into an unprofessional cheesy playground for amateurs.

Lots of opportunity for a large web company to take over the market for quality high end website sales....

I'd say Flippa screwed up...but I'm not so sure they did (or care). They have enough of a web presence to continue bringing in traffic and sites for a long while...and they are making BANK.

I listed something more as an experiment (a small, but quality site)...to see what it was like before listing my more serious stuff...I paid the $19 listing fee initially...and couldn't even find my site in the listings. I realized that everytime I went to the homepage it would kick me to feature listings ($29). I would click on the tab to see websites, it would only show me featured listings again...I would do a filtered search...still only show me featured listings. I couldn't find my site unless I went to like page 5 or typed in the exact keywords (which someone browsing wouldn't do)...so I shelled out an extra $5 for the listing in bold.

Still, the sales page got barely any traffic - $24 listing fee and a tiny percentage of people who would have seen it at the old Sitepoint saw it. It didn't sell (just had it on a 5 or 7 day auction)...and it was a quality site. Good to know.

Basically, you are forced into shelling out $50 minimum, if you want the traffic to your sales page PLUS the success fees. They GOT VERY, VERY greedy. And one could argue that my site would have sold if it were good...but no one could find it, so how could they buy it?

I think bizbuysell charges $60, better off going with them.

And yes, someone needs to start up a better option and NOT ALLOW turnkey sites. It waters down the quality. The quality of the visitors is just as important as the quality of the sites listed.

People aren't willing to pay enough for sites in order for them to sell high enough, in my opinion. Real estate sells for 100 times (depending on the market) gross monthly income, but sites sell for only 10ish. Who would want to sell a site that, after a year, would be making them more money than they would've gotten from the sale?

    DP is the best place.
