Hi Everybody,

I'm new here on DP but I've been hanging around for a while checking out all the talented designers and I love what I've been seeing, you folks really are awesome!!! We've got quite a few sites we'll be launching soon and we need lots of graphic work done so I decided to see how it goes for us here and if everything goes well, you'll be hearing a lot from us. Now on to the contest...

I need a clean, strong, professional looking logo for a general directory called Linksponge.com that we'll be launching soon. I have no real concept or colors in mind so I'm open to any concepts or ideas and prefer to request changes and modifications as the contest runs. I want something visually pleasing that is easily recognizable, not too busy and has some personality to it, but at the same time a corporate feel. The use of .com in the logo is not necessary and up to you and what looks best.

We envision using the logo on a white or light-colored background but that may change. The logo should not just be text but it must have linksponge prominently incorporated into the design and also have some sort of fun graphic element which can be a cartoonish type character, not necessarily a sponge (but it can be a sponge as long as it isn't square like SpongeBob and not just a round sponge). All text must be clean, solid, easy to read and professional looking.

Please be creative and use your imagination but don't make it too colorful, I'd say no more than four colors tops. Use sharp solid vivid colors (For example, something that will reproduce well on the web for a favicon) and stay away from gradients and reflections as the logo will also be used for print, not just the web.

All graphics used must be brandable, 100% original and created by you so please don't use any stock graphics or clipart.
The logo needs to be scalable, in layered editable vector format and all rights, fonts and source files will be transferred to me by the winner with 48 hours of receiving payment.

The contest will run for 72 hours but if we find something that knocks our socks off we may pick the winner sooner and also reserve the right to extend the deadline if a designer needs more time or until we find something we like. I look forward to seeing some really great designs and I will provide lots of feedback to everyone which will start as soon as I've seen a few designs. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask but please don't PM any logos or questions, I prefer to have them submitted in the thread for the benefit of everyone.

Payment will be made via Paypal within 24 hours of announcing the winner and receiving a PM or email from the winner with the necessary Paypal details. Thanks to everyone in advance and good luck with the competition!

Wow guys thanks for getting the ball rolling and responding so fast! I think my comments about spongebob might’ve misled some of you. I am looking for a character like spongebob just not one that resembles or that could be mistaken for spongebob.

We’re looking for a whimsical, zainy maybe even goofy character with a smile, that is big on personality and lots of pizzazz. It can be a sponge but it doesn’t have to be. Some of the concepts that come to mind are a figure eightish or sort of boneish looking linksponge running on a swoosh or leaving some kind of swoosh behind it. Another is linksponge casually leaning against the L, maybe laying with a leg crossed and its head propped up on an arm or maybe even peering over the word linksponge from behind.

Aymenbnr, the spiderweb concept is a bit too generic and not really what we’re looking for. Our directory will appeal to folks of all ages including kids so it would probably be best if we don’t base the logo on something that eats its young. It’s a good try though and if you can come up with some kind of happy, friendly feel-good character with a unique angle to it we’ll certainly consider the concept.

Flare97, your concept is more along the lines of what we’re looking for. Can you make the sponge look more figure eightish and develop it into more of a character with eyes, a smile, hands, feet etc… I like your choice of font, the readability is very good but the color for the name and the entire name in just one color feels wrong but you’re headed in the right direction.

Scorpianagency, your graphic is good, not quite what we have in mind but I’m pretty sure I probably steered you in the wrong direction with my comment about spongebob. I’ve seen some of your work here and I know you can have some fun with this one! You hit the nail on the head with the crisp sharp readability of your font and the two-color aspect of the name is right on the money but the font is just a tad futuristic.

Robi, the font is nice, very readable and the bubbles are nice too but I’m looking more for a cartoonish type character that people will identify with when then think of the site. I also want the name to stand out more so a much smaller bevel on the font or a flatter one would be a lot better but not bad at all for a first try.

All in all nice job guys, I think we're off to a good start and that we've got a great contest underway!!!

Scorpianagency you're definitely on the right track and frankly we hadn't thought of making the character out of chain links but I kinda like the idea, just have to wait till the wife err boss gets home to see what she thinks about it (a man has got to eat and stuff ya know...). What we had in mind for the shape and what I meant by figure eightish is more along the lines of the attached image. The font is absolutely perfect, can we change the color from orange to something else like a blue, purple, red or something along those lines with a little more pop to it.

Whoa guys this competition is really heating up and we're seeing some great concepts and designs! What a wonderful contest, I can see already that we're going to have a tough time and our hands full trying to choose!

ScorpianAgency, we love your links concept and see some very real possibilities with this one but aren't fond of the orange color. Could you drop the black arm links just a little and give the character more of a head/face to differentiate that area from the arms better. We 're also picturing this character with multi-colored links and with a bevel added to the links similar to the Google logo and think that would look awesome!

Dakouten, we like your design, especially the casual relaxed look of the sponge character but think it would look a lot better without the spots and a darker outline to make the character stand out more.

Zyndtel, we love your character and your attention to detail, this is exactly the kind of cute whimsical character we're looking for so don't change a thing on it! Could you eliminate the white area between the colored letters and black outline so we can see what that would look like.

MantisArt, The font doesn't work for us but your character is very cute and we think it would look better without the spots and an outline to make it stand out more. We like the hands a lot but could you change the orientation of the arms to something else perhaps a hand on a hip, an arm leaning on the name or maybe pointing to it.

Gipanuhotko, we also like your character a lot and all the cool details you put into it but the blue seems a little washed out, could you try a different color.

You_love_me44, my wife loved your concept and I must admit that it is very cute but I was hoping to see a single character with arms and legs etc...
