    sitemap and robot.txt files have to be important if you have php based site at least. You can block crawlers access to php file for avoiding panishment for circled links by robot.txt file and show generated static pages for crawlers. I think is it important for google PR if you can be banned ;)

    Sitemap has no concern with Page Rank or SERP's of a keyword. Sitemap is only required for search engines as to give exact group of URL's of our site which we need to get indexed in searches.
    But sitemap.xml with static URL's or a sitemap-index format file are very crucial for both static and dynamic site. Because more the URL's you have in search engine more are the chances of getting search traffic.

    It is important. With it you can submit to search engine and they can crawl all your pages in a relatively shorter time.

    Sitemap gives an idea for the search engines about the internal pages of website which otherwise not accessible directly. So it is important for a static or dynamic website to have sitemap up .

    You just connect it with your GWT, YSE and BW accounts and the SE's will be well informed about all pages on your site.

    Sitemap is quite essential for your website. However, I would recommend you having two sitemaps...one for your visitors to help them....second for the search engine to guide them. Sitemap just enable search engines to crawl and index your webpages and it would allow the users to find your website in Google.com

    It's a good way to quickly update Google with new content. On static sites, it doesn't help much.

    I have sitemaps for 4 out of my 5 websites.

    Either it is a static website or dynamic, Sitemaps are must to be submitted on your website and to the search Engines as well.
    If sitemap for dynamic pages was not as usual, Google guides should have mentioned that "submit Sitemap for your dynamic URL's".

    If you ask sitemap are important for PR or not, my answer is not.
    Because, the sitemap just help a site indexed all of thats content (article, image, file,etc.). It just give you some inbound link. Good for SEO, but doesn't work to give PR..
