Personally,I think the structure and maintenance of a laptop is more complicated than a PC.But I don't know
how to answer your quesion-which needs more maintenance? Whether it's a laptop or a PC,take care of it
carefully and I think there is no chance for you to maintain it frequently. In the case that you buy a laptop or
pc with bad quality and performance is another thing.

It depends on the user. As long your way around and technical know-how of the 2 (desktop/laptop), you will not get any trouble.

I'd say latop requires lesser maintenance than desktop. At least for me it is.. .. I've made it a habit not to buy off-the-shelf, ready-to-go branded PCs, but instead choose my own components and have the shop assemble it for me. There's always that chance that what I picked might not be the best hardware component for this chip or that. Or a bad hard drive type/model I've chosen. And so after a month, something goes wrong and I end up bringing it back to the shop. Where as if it's a good brand desktop, I'm sure they've tested out their machines before shipping it out.

For laptops, I make sure I get the ones with really good reviews from customers and benchmarks, etc. Well so far my laptops have been fine. Sold my HP laptop after using it for a year to a good friend. Until now he is still using it and says it's working fine.

I'd say yes! A laptop definitely needs more maintenance than a PC.
Laptops need coolers and such things.

Original branded laptops are much better and less care is need than desktop. For those desktop, there is possibility some hardwares are not imcompitible with each other, and maintainance are frequently needed.

It depends on the user. Basically if it's software-related maintenance, they're just the same. Desktops are more prone to dust accumulation and requires cleaning from time to time.

If you know how to repair computers then it wouldn't be a problem.

I would say the only real maintenance or health check is checking that dust is not clogging the airways underneath the laptop as the heat issue is the biggest killer of laptops the relaiblity of them these days are on par with the normal home computers, one of the biggest problems in the past was the batteries as they use to build up the dreaded ni-cad memory but with modern ni-mh batteries they dont have this problem.

I believe that this is hard to tell, probably pc's need more maintenance under certain circumstances.

Even though the components inside a laptop are cramped in tiny spaces and have no adequate ventilation, I have never had to replace anything else than the batteries on all my laptops (I of course hose the heck out of them with air tactically).

Where on my pc and mac desktops, I had to do numerous replacements over the years. Most of them being from not having a UPS (a laptop has one already something similar built in since it has a battery)

There are still many parameters on each in order to decide which one has less maintenance.
