Do you think China would attack India in the near future

Chinese armies had made inroads into Indian territory at two places. Firstly it crossed over at north east Indian border and entered into Indian side and traveled for 3 kilometers. The Chinese had also entered Ladakh and then went back. both the places had seen Chinese entering and receding back again.

What should be made out of all this? Is the Chinese trying to provoke India? They in fact, wrote "China" at the big stones which were lying inside the Indian territory.

No No no. They will rest for a long while when the itching in their bottoms cool down. They did this 1962 and later in the 1980s also.

Nothing but China trying to assert itself as dominant in the area.

You'd be surprised how often we, the United States, don't do a thing when Mexican military and paramilitary cross over the boarder every once in a while for whatever reason they give.

As long as you have political borders, you're going to have people that want to move them.

India is a Pacifist State. Military Doctrine must me instilled into every Indian over the age of 16. 2 year mandatory service. Do not recruit traitors. Fall of Rome is recruiting traitors into the Roman Army. Roman population was declining and Romans were forced to recruit traitors.

Be very very careful in this matter. Do not let population decline and at the same time allow traitors population increase. This is a sure sign fall of India when Indian Army will forced to recruit TRAITORS.

Please read all my posts to get good understanding: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1380399

India needs to re-test the Nukes as previous nuke tests was fail. This would scare China a little bit and Pak also.
India must also look to develop second strick capability against China.

Second strike capability? Are you crazy? Isn't this war frenzy?

And the talk of failures is a hoax. If you believe it's a failure, trust me, Chinese would certainly know more than you and I.

    the signs are all there...

1962 war also was preceded by such incursions and provocations.

our politicians prefer to sleep as they did in 1950's and 1960's.

and this time, India is likely to lose much more territory than it did in 1962.

    Right.

Forget about China, many scientists believe that India's current nuclear arsenal isn't even good enough to challenge that of Pakistan.

If India wants to develop a credible nuclear deterrent, it will need at least 20-30 more nuclear tests.

Anyone who watched yesterday's NDTV show and remember what Abdul Kalam said a month ago will not believe this story. Santanam who raised this issue will never be able to prove his claim ever. Why did he raise it only after retiring from the service? If he were so concerned, he could have done his best to correct the truth (that is, if he couldn't do his bit alone to better the explosion results) 11 years ago.

Even though there are no evidences that he is seeking commercial returns out of this or that he is up to write a book, there is no other reason in sight to believe that his intention is clean as it appears in this case.

Indian military docs are far more secretly held than US does and no one person, no matter how high he is positioned will have any access to all of them together to get the picture in full. This applies to Santanam as well. After all, he was only a public servant, not a decision maker of sorts to be able to access all and know all. (Get an idea of obsessive military secrecy policy Indian government follows here:
    http://www.india-today.com/itoday/17051999/books.html
    http://chemeng.iisc.ernet.in/alumni/nuclear2.html
    http://www.india-today.com/itoday/17051999/books.html
    )

Unfortunate reality is many people still want to believe hearsays and speculate on it even before sparing a legitimate thought on the issue.

China isn't going to attack India unlike it did in the past. The invasion theory of governance has lost its grounds to such an extent that there are more haters than there are supporters of it. More over, the last time over, India had no military presence (except for the "once a week" visit by ITBP) on all fronts China attacked India and it is not the case now. China knows damn well that it is going to suffer as much as India does provided war breaks out and this is the last thing they wish to have (edit: Just got this news bit, it's an official statement which supports my argument http://news.in.msn.com/national/article.aspx?cp-documentid=3236198). Trust me, they are not going to jeopardize their economic growth for anything.

I am not theorizing that China has given up on its expansionist tendencies, No. But they realize damn well that it doesn't work anymore with India. Only US has the guts and the power to defend itself if it attacks or invades in this date. China? No, far from it.

This is not just about Santanam.

More than half-a-dozen scientists and defense experts have supported his statements.

India's nuclear arsenal is no match for that of China.

India has just done a handful of tests whose yield has not even exceeded 50 kT.

China has done around 50 tests and has been able to achieve yields of over 3000 kT.

and less said about India's missile and delivery systems, the better. they are nowhere near that of China's.

What Inida holds is key strategic piece of land that Chinese need. When they had muslim riot they couldn't get to it in time to Xian. If they could aquire strategic passage ways in Kashmir their military could of responded much faster. This is also same in India/China border in the eastern front. What they may want to do is put India in defensive opposition to give up one of the key passage ways.

China is unstable internally and more riots bound to happen when their export held economy falls apart. India need to instill military doctrine. India has been passive country since the Guptas. If war takes place, good for India long term. India will be forever militarized. Once India fully militarized, India can dictate the choice: War or Peace, they the opponent get to pick the choice, just like the Romans dictated the terms to their enemies.

Back to Codythebest, Dictating the terms apply to you and your country too. Only reliable ally India has is Russia. For the rest of the countries and Islamist, Militarized India should dictate the terms. Either they like it or not.

Fine. But why would they attack India for just being stronger? I thought this post was not to determine whether China was stronger.

Chellany and Bharat Karnads are good as analysts and most Indians know them for their analytical abilities but this one is different. When the likes of Gen. Kapoor and Dr. Kalam are on record about the success of 1998 tests, these new developments sure appear to have different designs.

This shows really what stuff you are made up of and how much you regard your fellow humans, notwithstanding your green reps here. :(

because they claim large parts of Indian territory including the states of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

they considered Tibet was theirs and they conquered it in 1950.

now, they want Arunachal Pradesh too as according to them Arunachal is "South Tibet".
