logging into my direcotry for approving links, and i saw the news,
phpLD 4.0 announced!... it seems they already rolled it out in Beta, and has the much awaited mods section! just downloaded, will try things out, and come back...

anyone here already tried things out... experiences?

    M.
PS: BTW the directory section looks very deserted ...

The main new feature is allowing you to add widgets like Wordpress,
and I downloaded the version, the code looks different from the previous versions,
3.2 version is quite enough for myself anyway.

We want SEO URLs and extra links options to name but two.

Will the features ever be added? Most of the listed improvements can be implemented into 3.2.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the final version will bring us.

    Thanks Brian

This would be a great time to pull the free version of phpld and do everyone a favor by forcing people to spend some $ on the script. It certainly would reduce the fly by night directories...

Long time ago, when phpLD 3.4 was announced I asked about for a damn renewal mod...but it is not here yet.

Whatever... 3.2 is more than enough for what I need and I will pay some developers to add any extra features.

PS: Does someone know what is the difference between 3.2 and 3.4 from the security point of view ?
PS2: If any, can someone help me with that ?

Does David (the owner) communicate around here anymore? Would love to hear his feedback on some of these recommendations.

Yes i believe so, I’m talking about preinstalled!

I have only ever used PHPld for my directories but times have changed. if I’m going to spend more money on an upgrade, it must have something new, something that 3.2 does not or cannot do.

My untouched eBook site makes ten times more money than my directories do, it just not something I’m not willing to throw money at.

    Thanks Brian

You seems walk away the directory market,
it's not worth to spend anymore investment on directories nowadays.

I wouldn’t say that I have walked away, I use directory submission daily for my own and my clients sites. I also run some of my own directories, I just don’t see the reason to spend unnecessary.

Upgrading can be expensive if you need to make templates changes, mod changes and an upgrade fee. phpLD Widgets sounds good, but time will tell if it temps me to spend my cash.

    Thanks Brian

I think phpld upgrades too frequently?, it is kind of wasting time and money to upgrade. I choose to stay the older version.

Still using 3.2 / 3.3 with my directories and with the number of mods installed, that is not going to change any time soon.

i believe this is the biggest draw back for the script, and lack of vision of the creators/ prorammers, ... an upgrade is an uphill task of rewriting and reinstalling (or should i say re"editing" ) all files for all mods u currently have,

hopefully future versions will look into this, just like wordpress does, no hassle of editing files at all, and upgrading is a 30 seconds job now.

All I can say is that it is much easier to add mods or widgets. Someday we might be able to upgrade the script like we do with wordpress.
