    That's a fully loaded question!.

To be listed in search engine's, you can apply to all the major search engines to be listed, this will probably take about 2-3 months.:(

However, if you are using WP, then install Google sitemaps and your site can be indexed quicker with good content.

There are other ways too, submit your articles to Digg, Reddit and your site should get indexed since these are big traffic sites...

As for page ranks, link building and good content is the best way to gain high rage ranks!.

You can easily get your website listed in search engines. Once the search engine bots crawl your website your website would get indexed. All you need to do is post in multiple forums and add your website url in the signatures. You can also do directory submissions, article submissions, Press release submission, social bookmarking etc. By following this your website will get indexed and you would also gain backlinks for your website.

For new website, you need to submit your URL to search engines. You can start submitting your new website URL to
    - Google
    - Yahoo
    - Bing/MSN
    - Altavista
    - Ask
There are a lot of free multiple search engine submission tool available online too, but I suggest doing it manually.

As for new website, I suggest you to submit to free directories too. It helps to give some backlinks and traffic too. Although, it is not the preferred type of backlinks for many, at least you can start from search engine and directory submission for your new website.

As for pagerank, you need to get dofollow backlink. Only dofollow backlinks will help you increase pagerank. Search engine and directory submission will not help you much in getting good pagerank. Try to ask anyone that you know to give a link with no rel="nofollow" attribute added. You can check a link or a blog is dofollow or nofollow.

Also, learn about the value of your dofollow backlink from pagerank sculpting. If you want to rank well in google search engine or getting good pagerank, you need to concentrate on getting more dofollow backlinks.

I've had sites get listed in Google in as little as a few days. Getting "listed" in the search engines is easy. Getting ranked well is the challenge that you should be concerning yourself with. Do some research on this site and others like it, but don't spend all of your time on the forums. Take the advice that you read and put it to use.
