    What are you selling now?
What do you want to sell?
What would be fun to sell?

Go find an affiliate program for that/those things. :)

Great questions thats exactly the type of thing I am looking for to help us get started. I do SEO for a company now, this is just going to be a side project for my wife and I, so answering the first one is easy, now to answer the other 2 ;)

Me too. I am reading a ebook 'The Affiliate Masters Course' trying to figure out how to set up my online affiliate business. You can download it here:

It's really great and it's free! I'm still thinking about my content for my new website now. Any suggestions?

    Hi Guys,

As far as the question of what’s the "best" affiliate program or best way to start - well that's a big question but the answer can be defined by YOU!

    1) What is your current site about and who are your visitors? What are they interested in? Find products and services that will appeal to them and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! For instance if you have a site about travel, don't just promote hotel and airline affiliate programs, add travel insurance, Amazon books about travel and Luggage.

    2) What are you passionate about??? What do you know a lot about? If you can find an affiliate programs that tie into your interests or hobbies you will be ahead of the game!!! WHY? Because it can take some time to generate income and if it's something you are interested in it will give you the incentive to keep building more pages PLUS you can add valuable content to your site based on your knowledge of the subject.

    3) Make a list of all the potential products and services that you think may be a good fit for either your existing site or a new niche site based on #2.

Go to Commission Junction, LinksShare, BeFree, ShareaSale or one of the affiliate directories like Refer-it and find several programs then compare:

    A) The honesty & integrity of the program. Are they parasite-free, do they have affiliate-centered management, good record of paying on time? *This can be hard to figure out unless you search on Affiliate Boards.
    B) Commission – Could be per sale or per lead
    C) Cookie Length - This is how long sales are tracked and credited to you
    D) Good merchant web site design & navigation that will convert your leads to sales

Now to answer the question “What is the best affiliate program?” Well, it depends and as you can see there is no easy answer, but I hope I have given you some guidelines and tips to ponder. If you would like to see some of the high paying, high integrity affiliate programs that I have chosen to consult for and tie my good reputation to, check out my 5 Star Affiliate Programs and see if any of them are a good fit for you.

Please post any specific questions on this board and I will do the best I can to help you.

    Your Partner in Success,

If you are an SEO expert, how about something like text link ad trading? You know the market, you have some idea of how much you pay for what. It's not exactly an affiliate program, but it is a program that you work with other marketers and you get commission. It kind of works like affiliate program on your end. Is that kind of set up you'd like to have or you actually want to sell goods like candles and paste sauce?

    1. Text link ad brokerage
    2. Contextual ad (provider side)
2.2. Co-op ad clone and include paid participants
    3. College, university degree program referral program
    4. Restaurant reservation and you get commission
    5. Hotel reservation and you get commission

These are some ideas, but it's kind of hard to think of anything new.

I am guessing he means these have a control panel where you actually keep track of your earnings and generate your own links. Could be wrong though.

What I meant to say is this. You become the operator, manager side, not the participant. For example, I sign up for credit card referral program, and I create a finance website. I have my account, and as I refer people to credit card companies, I get commission. Here, I am a participant. I'm not operating or managing the program. Does it make sense?

If I have direct contacts with credit card companies, create my own referral program, and let participates create websites and find people to sign up for credit cards, I am operating the program. I manage it and I own it. Does it makes sense? That's what I meant by "you run the program".

Hehe, Rob....I agree though, stop trying to plug threads for your own program, I looked at it, it appears shite and the webpage is annoying. If you want people to sign up for a program the least you could do is find a decent template on which to hawk your wares.
