From an SEO and ranking perspective, they are treated the same (at least at Google which is where it counts IMO). Google doesn't treat .com any differently than a .info, .net, .org, etc.

However, PEOPLE do typically see .coms as more legitimate sites. The click-thru-rate on .coms will be higher than on a .info with the same domain name. Other websites are going to be more likely to link to a .com as a resource than to a .info as well.

I would take a less desireable .com domain over a more desireable .info domain any day.

.com just 'looks' more professional and is just easier for people to remember. When you tell someone, for example, ' I have a site, it's YourSiteName'. If you don't mention the extension, many people assume that it's a .com and even if you do mention, people tend to have the .com extension 'sticked' in their heads, so a .com is best for type-in traffic. But to Google and other search engines around, I don't think it's a criteria. It will depend on your SEO skills and the quality of your content, mainly.

Yes I also agree from search engine point of view .info and .com are equal. I have seen many .info domains ranking competitively for some very competitive phrases.

But I would still adhere to a rule, if a .com is available then buy .com. If you really want to use .info then 301 redirect .com to .info

Also one more major benefit for .com from user point of view is Ctrl + Enter keyboard shortcut from browser address bar.

Rule of thumb when asking a simple question like that just do a search on DP and you will likley find 100 threads with the same question .XXX or .com which is better... all of them conclude that .com is better... but I don't believe it!

Reason .info is not recommended is because, it is heavily used for spamming purpose. The main reason is cheap.

I would suggest go with .com

In terms of SEO both have same value but since many people love .com, if you use it then it will be easy for you in SEO.

.com is more better than .info from SEO perspective and as well for your visitors..
Although .com is more expensive, it's worth for your online business..

Some say that .info and .com TLDs are seen as the same value by search engines and that is generally true. However, from my experience search engines, especially Google, tend to discriminate .info websites, probably because .info TLDs are sold very cheaply by domain registrars and a majority of this TLD is used for spammy websites. I have started getting rid of my .info TLDs because of this.

The only purpose of .info is for cheap skates that don't have money to buy a .com

When it comes to search engine value, it doesn't appear that it makes any difference as to SEO. More people emphasize that the value is place more on the keyword in the domain name, which makes good search engine sense.

Get .com instead of .info. Easiers for user to remember. SEO wise, it's the same. If you can somehow get .org, that will be even better for SEO, at least to my understanding, .edu and .org accrue authority score much easier compare to .com domains.
