Submitting to Directories: Usefull or Useless?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by hohohihi, Sep 10, 2009.

Hi, does anybody know that submitting to directories like blogcatalog, dmoz, etc is actually usefull or not?
And what I mean is in the term of giving backlink. Does that directories give us backlink or not? Because some people said that directories are categorized as link farm and Google hates it.

    Please help me!!

Also give me some URL of good and valid directories that you know :D

I've never done it and I'm doing fine.

That being said, it obviously works for some. Or directories wouldn't be charging outrageous prices for a single link.

The best thing to do is test it yourself. If you don't have a budget, there are many free directories to submit your website to. Just don't do any other SEO for a month or so, and see what happens. :)

Sure, it is useful if the directory is do follow and quality directory. At minimum, you can get some traffic from it if you manage it right.

submit your all links (all URLs) to digg.com, mixx.com, diplinks.com, and other sites which links directly to your webpage. this way you will get back-links.

Exactly what I meant. I did some research myself. I made a new blog and submitted to many FREE directories and didn't do any other SEO techniques. True that directories divert few traffic and my blog got indexed in google faster, buat after 2 months my PR still 0. Maybe because in free directories we need to give reciprocal link and most of the direcories are considered as link farm by google.

So, anybody have a luck with FREE directories please share some URL to us :D

Good at first to get indexed - but I notice from Webmaster tools that not many of them show up.

Just make sure that the directory is general or specific to your niche. If you get a link from an completely unrelated website it may hurt your sites rankings.
