    I see on the Google API Blog that the SOAP Search API will be completely discontinued on August 31, 2009.

    I assume that will mean the end of checking Google rankings with the Keyword Tracker tool at DP?

    Interestingly enough, Google updates still seem to be working. I guess now we're just "wait and see" on how long it lasts.

    Yep. It is dead for me. DP should take it down or at least post a message on the tracker what is going on. I nearly died when I saw all rankings at 0!

    Anyone know which of Google's API's to sign up for that may be able to replace the soap? Maybe soap-on-a-rope?

    Since I am not a programmer I don't quite follow their information. It seems a different API would work in it's place and a small program could be built to use it.

    Google's replacement is the AJAX Search API, but I don't know if it supports the required functionality.

    I've switched to Advanced Web Ranking to track SERPS and I'm much happier with it.

    I've been looking at ways to do it without the old SOAP API (since it's not available anymore). Their JSON API looks the most promising, but it's a BITCH to work with and you are limited to the first 32 results (can't dig deeper than that). I really don't get why Google doesn't allow programmatic queries under their new API token authentication structure and simply limit it to 1,000 queries per day per Google Account or something. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

    Maybe if enough people bug Google about it... It really seems bizarre Google has no real web search API anymore, but they have API for every other obscure service they have.

    I signed up and got a key then had the AJAX Search API running in a few minutes. Since every user has to get their own key then theoretically DP should be able to swap out the SOAP search API. We'd all have to sign up again then enter new keys, but it should work...if Google doesn't restrict the number of queries from the same server.

    One other thing, the AJAX Search API only returns the first 32 search results so it wouldn't be the exact same results as the SOAP Search API.

    What a pity we can't use tht KW tracker any more. It has helped so many people over years to get their websites in good working condition. Thanks to Shawn anyway for this excellent tool and the service rendered over many years.

    Hmmm... one idea I just had was someone *could* (in theory) alter the advanced usage script to scrape Google results for themselves and simply return those results as how it was previously returning results via the API........
