Hi everyone, I've got an issue I'm finding hard to deal with...I'm a work at home mom and for the last year I've been learning how to build a good online business, mainly how to market informational products and to become an affiliate. The business is building slowly and I'm still learning as much as I possibly can but recently an few family members and friends have been asking what it is that I do for a living. I tend to chicken out of explaining by saying that I'm still a stay at home mom but that's becoming a silly excuse to use as the kids are of age now. How do I describe what it is that I do?
I'm facing the same issue too. And I actually quit a lucrative job to stay and work frm home for one year...Thanks to recession, people think I have lost my job and pretending to work on my own business.. As for yourself, you can probably say you are into freelancing Internet marketing..Once you build a solid website, you can tell them straight about what you do
Do you know, I've been generating my full time income online for about a decade now - and i still struggle with explaining to people what I do. Once I told someone I was an internet marketer, and they thought my job was to promote the internet. These days I tell them I sell pencils outside Kings Cross station - saves a lot of time and bother
Hello, I also have a website of my own, lot of my friends be asking what I'm doing online. I told them that, I'm a middle man between advertisers and consumers. I take products directly from advertisers with good discount prices and market it to the online users. In return, I get commission for every time people purchased products
I did ecommerce and freelance projects from home for years before recently joining an agency - I just let people think I was independently wealthy and didn't need to work let the nosey sods believe me or not - none of their business
Yeah its something difficult to explain i just say out that i am web developer some of them don't ask anything if they ask then i start explaining the whole process,, and they stop in the mid way
Simply explain that you're either a) A drug dealer or b) You own your own Online Business promoting other people's products (internet marketing), in which you get paid a commission every time someone clicks on your link. hth, Clint
I'm happy enough to tell people I'm an internet marketer, but you could tell them you're a marketing executive specialising in the internet Failing that, tell them you're a vampire and you do all of your best work at night Steve.
I think many of us have gone through this. I have heard more than once "when are you going to get a real job?" I always ask "Why?" as I start up my new Harley heading off for my flight class to get my pilots license. Entrepreneur is the word you are looking for I think
Just tell them what you do now. Do tell it as specific as you can coz if you tell them you do online business, then they may be don't understand. So,you should go into more details to let them more understand your job.
just got a thought..tell them you are into marketing..sellling weight loss products or watever..when they ask how, tell them its online and not door to door..
In India, 99% people do not understand if you say you are a freelancer or work online. I have found a new answer for all of them. I work on US projects directly over internet and earn in $$. If you want to know what i do in detail, sit beside me and watch.
I would say the best thing is to show them some of the things you do and then also tell a bit about why you fx write articles and how you find keywords and stuff.
100% true....Most of the ppl in India think that earning money through the internet is a myth...my best friends also do not believe when i tell them..
