After looking for several directories, I saw most of them did not have, term of service, privacy or similiar menu. There are only home, submit, latest, top and contact

Avoid directories that want your email address and do not have a privacy policy

IMHO, directories that don't have at least something on those pages are ones developed by someone who thinks running a directory is going to be an easy way to make fast money. They typically don't understand the value of those pages nor do they care. If I see placeholder text on all of those pages, I typically don't bother submitting.

There are a few cases where the directory owner rushed their launch and the pages are forthcoming but that's rare.

very good point, but i would like to know why do you think term of service or privacy pages are necessary to have in web directories. i am not really an expert in the legal side of doing online business, so i am curious.

Have you heard about directories that collect email addresses and then sell them to
Marketing companies thus making more money than for paid inclusion?

So, I wanna know if my email will be kept under the lock
    ;)

I've never once looked for a TOS of a directory
I never give my activate email to any online form like that ;)
What that being said, I've never even sent an email out from my directory and the submission still come in :)

Unfortunately, a great deal are back bedroom operations, not professionally run businesses which are accountable to their actions.

Paid or free, any directory submission should be investigated first. Do you want your business listed between 2 porn sites and a gambling site?

I think most of these directories were created by developers and they don't care much about such things )))

TOS on a directory is where a directory owner should indicate their rules and submission guidelines. It's where the directory owner should indicate if they allow deep links or homepage links only, pricing and listing duration, copyright information regarding content and images (including screenshots) owned by the submitting sites, what sites they generally accept or decline, etc.

It is also a place where a directory owner should place some sort of disclaimer that they are ultimately not responsible for the content on the listed sites and what a visitor should do if they encounter a site with objectionable material.

Having a privacy policy is a good idea for the reason fastreplies has already given. It is also a requirement for any site displaying Adsense advertisements.

I do look over the TOS. If not for anything else, to see whether or not I can submit a deep link.

This is great.. That could be one of the reason.. Well, that makes us more understand the level of that.

I think google also require you to have a privacy policy if you are using adsense on the directory.
