    Hi there

When you submit a url to any directory, does it help you with SEO?

I clicked one of the links on the listed directory for June2009, and they were asking for a fee. I didn't go too much into it, which led me to post my topic and asked the purpose of a directory.

What are the benefits of submitting your url to a directory?
Lastly, do you have to pay a fee on all those directories or are some of them free like Google?

    Many thanks in advance
    CHEERS :)

You don't have to pay if you don't want to. There are free and then there are paid directories.

Directory submissions are usually one of the ways to get your site indexed and linked fast. Or perhaps get traffic at all. I'm not sure if that's still such a big deal today. Heard/read lots of people saying it's not that much worth as it used to be in the past.

Well if that is true, then it makes sense to me because I've had my site for a couple of years and its still ranking in the 6millions . Damn, why didn't someone tell me this earlier :(. I just added a blog to my website, so hopefully that will help with SEO :D.

Cool! So would you use any directory or are there ones that recommend?

P.S I just did research in one of the other threads, and was amazed by the comments made.

I guess I have one question to ask:

For good SEO, would you highly recommend:
    1. Directory
    2. No duplicate content
    3. Rich Content
    4. Niche

or can anyone add/list their recommendations please?
    Thanks in advance

    CHEERS :)

I'd start with directories in your niche. Then look at the higher quality or best value general directories. What I like to do is see if the page where I'll be listed comes up in a google search. If it does then I'm pretty certain that it will pass some link juice and maybe get me some traffic too.

Directory submissions used to work, they still do but not as much. Ofcourse if the directory is a popular one, you will get traffic from it. So search engine rankings is not the only factor to consider.

The prime purpose of a directory is to exchange information. Doing so, you also get backlinks(as a webmaster) ;)

By using directory one can get required topic sites under a single roof. You can get high PR sites through directory.

It's definitely not the only cause you're site is ranking low, don't rush on this one!

    Hello buckmajor,
We are submitting our websites to get backlink from that directories. The good backlink also get link pr juice from that directory and can increase our pr value. Also we can get traffic from it, if a user search for any keywords and that our link is index in any search engine.
Google provide free directory submission and there are lots of websites are available those are providing free as well as paid services for directory submission.

BINGO!! I get it now, submitting your website to a directory allows us to build backlinks... I asked before, how do I create backlinks but now that you explained it, this makes so much sense in one of my other thread that I posted not long ago ;)

P.S I didn't know everyone was referring to link building as a backlink too.

Cool, thanks guys, and thanks tcyonline:)

    Good advise.
As an example you can take AMRAY.
It gives you 4 site owner friendly backlinks from our directory all of which has been listed in Google.

Then of course, you can submit to 4 directories with PR 4 instead and get the same 4 backlinks :)

    ;)
