Hi, Could any body tell me that which tag is preferred by google <i> or <em> as well as in between <b> and strong. as i am getting confused to use these tags. Thanks for your help in advance.
This is one thing Google has no say so over. HTML standards are controlled/developed by W3C. http://www.w3.org/
Only thing what I know is google lik more text and big font header should be less in your site.. for ex: <h1>
I have heard many years ago that tags <b> and <i> are for formatting the text and <strong> and <em> mean that this text is more important. The fact that these tags also format the text is their secondary function. But as I said this information I heard many years ago when I learned SEO basics. I have no idea about current W3.org standards.
Out of <b> and <strong> I do not think that any tag is more prefered by google. I think that google treats both those tags the same. I saw this once in a video where Matt Cutts told this.
I don't think Google cares about any of those. Google doesn't pay too much attention to markup. Don't think that putting terms in bold or italics is going to make much, if any, difference on your search result positions.
Thanks all of you for your comments on my concern. Also i have come to know that i have started thread in wrong place so i am sorry for it as i was not clear where to post it. I request to Admin to move it in appropriate place.
As of 3 yrs ago... <b> is same as <strong>, <em> is same as <i>... Check out the video on the topic (about 1 min in).
Yes, it sure does make a difference. Why do you think when you search for a particular term, Google bolds it all over the place? Fact is, nobody knows for sure. My feeling is why take the chance of not bolding the keywords etc? Takes all of one second, and it certainly can't hurt.
