i think its pretty safe to say that these two methods are the best ways to get targeted traffic to your site. however, which method generally gets better results? and which is less time consuming?

use a varity of linkbuilding methods to look natural in google's eyes. So my recommendation is to use both.

I've always had better luck with blog commenting vs. forum posting as far as generating traffic is concerned, but both are great to get backlinks and help boost SERPs.

Forum postings requires registration and often post counts to enable signatures. If you are looking at time factor , blog commenting is easier . But forum posting in NON webmaster centric forums might get you some good clickthrus.

You will get better results if you do both blog commenting and forum posting in related niche to your sites.

Blog commenting maybe more efficient than forum posting. Sometimes commmenting in one blog will bring tremendous traffics.

For direct traffic, I think that forum posting works better. But for SEO purposes, I think blog commenting works better. A good SEO campaign will need both, as well as article marketing, social networking, and text link advertisements.

No doubt that both are the best way to increase traffic or drive traffic. Both are equally important in terms of traffic. But, to receive traffic using these techniques you will need to update your blog or site with fresh and unique content.

Both are very important ways to get traffic so I wouldn't use one and not the other. Forums are good once you have your signature set up.

I'd say forum posting is easier for beginners and you can control it better.

I get better results with forum postings, traffic wise, but i personally dont care about traffic cuz i do business in a local area so people from other states and countries dont do me any good. But, if your talking backlink wise, blogs all the way. I have many backlinks on blogs with high page rank.

The thing about blogs is, you leave a comment on a new post, and eventually that page will gain rank, people link to it, etc... after like a year, that post has like a page rank of 5. Its good stuff, but it takes time.

Than you gotta make sure your posting on a forum/blog that is related to your content, not just anywhere and when you post, make sense in the posts and take your time to write something useful that other people can enjoy reading. Most blog comments now days are like this.

    Nice article thanks

great post! Keep up the good work!

    Very Interesting.

Never thought about it this way.

    Cool.

    Check my blog out.

    etc...

Cmon guys, dont be spammers, take your time!

I've had great luck with posting in forums, especially if you can find one in your niche. I've noticed a lot of the good blogs have stopped allowing comments because of all the spamming

Do both and then some. I look at directories and blogs where people have spend so much time building links, only to get banned from a forum (potentially erasing all of your links) or have your comments massed erase from a blog(s). Stick with a well rounded approach including articles, pure SEO on your content, directories, blogs, and more that you know will be around for a while.

With forums you will receive more than one link from the website if you post multiple times on the forum, where as with a article directory or link directory you will only receive only one link.:D
