Yes, I do understand that. I actually, tend to agree that this is the way to do it. Basically, you keep all the elements fixed in size, and get the "white space" stretchable.

However, I am not the flash coder myself. I'll get the coder to look thru this thread and tell me if such skin could be coded into a player.

    V06-TECH,

As for the shuffle button (or any other button), i think this is what needs to be done:
    1) the size of the font should be fixed
    2) the width and height of the button should be scalable
    3) the word shuffle should be placed in the center of the button

Anyway, I contacted the flash coder who will work on this skin and now I am waiting for his response.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah the idea of filling the white space is the same as a web page that is designed to stretch to the width of a person's screen. But it doesn't effects any of the actual design, text, or height. So check with him to see if it can be done. I wish I knew more about it myself. (Sorry if I am rambling on too much. I come here for the money, yes, but I am the kind of designer who always goes further then just making a design and hitting submit, I love helping the contest holders).

You idea for the buttons sounds good. I will just have to make the buttons a little bigger though. So that when its scaled down, the text fits inside.

    mitcharr,

I am sorry for delay on commenting your entry.

Basically, I like it. It looks appealing.

However, it is visibly different even when not scaled. There is a difference between your top screenshot and the screenshot I posted. I am not sure if this difference is due to vectorization or due to the way you compressed the screenshot.

    More comments in 10 mins.

here is another thing that bugs me: the smaller the player gets, the less usable it is. naturally, it's expected.

so, i think that's the best course of action is to keep some elements fixed in size (round buttons, icons), and to make scalable the rest of the elements.

Here is my latest revision laughingeyes. As you can see the buttons are still very readable. I did the scalling quickly just to show you, and the words repeat and download dont seem to be looking right, so I will go fix that, but it gives you a general idea:

I just learned something. DP was compressing the images. It made it smaller, which made it look crappier. I never noticed that before. I wonder if its always done that to me, hmm. Well here is the hyperlink instead.

    V06-TECH,

The header of the player looks great.
Generally, the buttons in the body of the playlist look good too. As you suggested, the font doesn't look right - there is something different from original in it.

I gotta go offline now and will be back in tomorrow afternoon PST time.

V06-TECH, just wondering what font you used for the playlist and buttons?

Guys, this is to confirm that this technique is acceptable:
    - make all the "white space" scalable
    - keep important elements to be fixed in size, to improve the usability of scaled down widget

Here is another update. The bottom player is yours, the top player is mine. EVERYTHING on mine is vector, except for the ringing phone icon. It says "download" instead of "download track"s... and the phone isnt next to "get ringtones," but that was just me messing around the trying to scale everything. I will post again when I get this figured out with scaling. Hope you like it:

And again, one more update. Here is a preview of how it would scale. The volume and timecode was left out because I cant decide yet what to do. We might have to set it all to scale down only a little bit, and then squish together. I dont know if thats possible though

    V06-TECH,

The last one looks so good. Could you please post the skin scaled down to widths of 320px and 360px?

Also, I really do want to have the ringtone icon on the ringtone button. Is there any room for it?

As you can see, it scales to fit into the message too:
