You could be adding lots of unique content to your site and that may bring you PR2. I have had such experience.

Well no, you cannot get PR without backlinks. one of the criterias for PR is that site has backlinks from valued sites. Depending on that you get PR.

Nope, PR is based only on the quantity and quality of backlinks pointing to your site so you can't increase PR without increasing backlinks.

for now, I think if a site even gets "pr" it will lost its rank soon without backlinks. But according to my opinion google will change its algorithm related with backlinks.

well I dont think PR is possible without any links adding content is a different thing and PR different PR just depends upon the quality of links you might not be seeing any links but still having a PR2 because you would definitely got some links but the difference is that Google may not be showing that as Google only shows some selected links try searching for links in Yahoo.

it's not about the number, it's all about the quality (if you have 2 or three PR 5-6 you might achieve somethin :) )

    Good luck ;)

yep, it's all about the quality of the links, not the number. But my guess is that it's not entirely true that backlinks are a must for reaching PR2. Blogs and other content sites that are updated every day or several times a day, will get high PR even without backlinks. I think google gives them the benefit of the doubt and makes their content viewable. if, after a while, they don't produce backlinks, google lowers their PR. besides, PR2 isn't high at all...so it shouldn't be that hard to reach.

PR comes only from backlinks. Anyone saying it comes from unique content or updating often simply doesn't know what they are talking about. Now the better the content, the more likely someone will link to you.

I was wonder to see PR1 of surs.info It has 0 visitors and has one backlink. So, i believe that only backlink can give you PR. However, i am worried by seeing PR4 of DP.

According to Google's pagerank factors backlinks affect 85% of ur site pagerank. Other factors only dominate 15% of the rest. Without getting quality backlinks you can never grow PR of ur site, that's impossible.
The reason of being PR2 is because he got some quality backlinks from others although he didn't take any initiative.

I don't know what you mean by 85%. Backlinks makes up 100% of pagerank. Pagerank is basically how popular your site is on the web. The more relevant and authority that the site has, the more pr juice you receive from the backlink. This being said pagerank isn't everything. Building quality content should be your number 1 goal.

Since PageRank is based on backlinks, I don't see how it's possible to get a higher PageRank score without backlinks. Keep in mind that backlinks to your domain/home page from other pages in your site are backlinks and will help increase your PageRank.

The bottom line is that PageRank alone won't make you rank for a specific term. I've seen many cases of a site with much lower PageRank out rank one with a higher PR in the search results due to the keywords in it's backlinks and the content on the site.

Yes I agree that is what I was talking about and also the no. doesn't matter the quality does. You can even achieve PR 5 with just a single back link if that only link comes from a very high quality site and by high quality I do not mean a very high PR.
