For someone just starting out in the SEO game. Can anyone let me know what their first job was. Obviously I am not experienced enough to go out and find a client and charge them but I also have no site of my own to promote. I don't want to do "free" work for a client and make someone else money which I use my time to earn nothing. What was your first SEO job and did you make anything from it? Did you just go out and get clients regardless of your experience? Let me know, Thanks.
SEO'd a local martial arts dojo. Spent $20 total, they're still #1 for all of their terms, and I have free lessons for life for myself and any family members/spouses.
In my opinion, the best thing you can do to get experience is to setup your own blog. Optimise it, do link building, write SEO copy and hopefully achieve some good rankings. It's a great way of getting experience and also helps to promote yourself to potential clients or employers.
Did an international sourcing agent's site. Currently #4 for a high money 2 term phrase. SOB still hasn't paid me, and its been the better part of a decade. Too much money to easily forgive/forget but too little to make a fight in court worthwhile. Live and learn...
I suppose I was my own first SEO client, the second being a local furniture store. As for just getting started, I would be happy to 'sponsor' your quest for seo knowledge and mastery, I could give you a domain and some hosting, even install a wordpress backend if you want to try your hand at ranking. Hit me up with a PM. Edit: This would be no-strings-attached, well, one very small one, I would require one link to my main site in the footer, but the rest would be up to you.
My title was "Junior Website Updater" and little did I know I was actually doing SEO. Funny enough, I became interested in it and evolved my thinking into lateral and provided results. Addition to the above comments, I would recommend reading Aaron Wall's SEO Book (just google it), he puts things in a very clear perspective. Read > Learn > Practice > Learn > Read > Learn > Practice etc etc. Good luck
My first SEO job was on my own website. I didn't pretend I understood the SEO game before taking on clients. That's pretty cool
My first SEO job was as a freelancer with my friend. if you work as a freelancer can charge either on package basis or for complete seo on monthly basis
my first job about SEO is for a online store inc , and learn lots of things , now i still work for it.
My very first "pure" SEO job was a consultation -- I got paid $250 for a few hours worth of work (that ended up taking longer than I wanted to). The company I was consulting for was on the verge of going out of business, and was desperate to try anything to save their store. Today they're not only surviving, but thriving as the UK's largest directory and supplier of used car Japanese car parts. Oh, and I didn't contact my first client -- they contacted me.
My first SEO job if I can actually call it a job, was to optimize my own blog site. That was the first time I actaully learn SEO, I learned from reading out good books and just looking through some discussions as well.
My first site I optimized is a dvd site selling pirated DVD,...And I don't even know that this is a pirated on.
First SEO job was on my own websites. Still have never done SEO for someone else, don't see the point.
