Many people use Yahoo Messenger as their main chat client, some use Google but not as many. You need to have both if you associate with a lot of people, there are a few clients like Pidgin (www.pidgin.im) which have all of the different services in one application, it's very handy.
Yahoo messenger is a++ than google but we cant neglect google talk too they are also providing good functions now a days
Yeah! Google Talk gets instantly disconnected whenever your Internet Connection stops working while Yahoo Messenger consumes some time to disconnect! Also Google talk consumes less virtual memory than Yahoo Messenger
Google Talk is no where near yahoo messenger or msn messenger these both are quite powerful and google talk is new when compared

It's not the fact that one messenger works better than another. It's the fact that you should have all messengers to fit your clients needs. Not downloading a messenger could result in literally thousands in losses.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer Yahoo Messenger. I have been using it for a long time and I am totally satisfied with it. Most of my friends are using the YM, so there is no point for me to start using the Gtalk.
I used to stay 24x7 on yahoo... was reluctant to google... but since i started using it, i'm addicted to it... Asked all my friends to start using it! It's so very caring for your PC's memory.
