I am finally looking to start blogging, but am unsure which is the best engine to use. I only know of Blooger or Wordpress, but assume there are more out there.

What are the benefits of each, and which is easier to set up.

    I would appreciate your suggestions

I will prefer Wordpress platform compared to other blogging engines. For me, its more flexible and easy to use for beginners to expert a like. Got really high tech support despite its free.

Wordpres is the best platform to use, I find it stable, secure and free. If you are find it difficult to setup (including the database), I can help you on this for free.

Wordpress is really good for blogging, if you are starting with a new one and planning to go for free wordpress.com domain then go for it. You will find lot many things over there. Otherwise self hosted Wordpress is having lot many features. There are people who are doing well on Blogger as well but there are some restrictions over there for which you will have to know HTML, Scripts for hacking those restrictions.

    All the very best!

These type of "WordPress vs Blogger" discussions pop up every now and then. I don't really think it's a fair comparison as you have much more control with a self-hosted WordPress installation, since it's on your own server. Because of that, pretty much everyone will say WordPress.

Blogger vs WordPress.com is another story though, since they are both hosted solutions. Blogger will allow you to have ads and other stuff, while WordPress.com tends to be much more strict about things like that.

I'd recommend you find a cheap shared host, get your own domain, and use self-hosted WordPress. It's really up to you though, what your goals are, and how serious you are about your blog.

    eery coin has two sides,
for a newbie, then blogger is a good choice to experience the easy DIY and quick index. also it is not that strict as WP, since if you are not familiar with the rules, maybe your WP blogger ends up suspended.

Thanks for the tips everyone. It's given me a lot to think about.

As a non techie, I was swayed towards Blogger, but I as most of you recommend Wordpress, I'll check it out again

I would suggest wordpress, easy to setup, easy to use, and set it up on your own hosting account.

    Hello,

I've made a TON of blogs and mini sites with WP and Blogger. I am crazy over wordpress but blogger works good also. Wordpress I find is more powerful quicker in the search engines and there's a plugin for just about anything you would want for your wp blog.

    go with WP!

I was a longtime Blogger fan, and while I still like Blogger, I would say go with WordPress.

    Blogger:
Pro - Blogger is better for a quick set-up of adsense, polls, photos, etc.
Con - It looks cheesy / dime-a-dozen effect

    WP:
Pro - If you know basic html/coding, then you can make a free blog into a top-notch site
Con - If you are brand new to blogging, you won't be able to make the most out of it RIGHT AWAY (if you can study/research/practice with WP blog consistently for a couple weeks, then you'll be good to go)

So again, Blogger is great if you just want to be really lazy for Blogger/adsense great for a newbie.... but really WP has much more to tweak and will give you a much better blog than blogger, and if you're brand new to WP it doesn't take much time or energy to utilize/customize.

definitely Wordpress...I would not prefer Blogger..it is easier to manage and it has great list of tutorials, hacks, template and many more

but if you don't want to choose that..Joomla will be oen of the best choice for blogging..

Recently I have lost over 2 years of effort on wordpress without any message or info
So while it is a great platform / suggest to go for your own hosted solution - lest you end up in a situation like I am (Thanks to Google Cache - i have recovered most of my pages... but it was painful)

Haven't come across similar 'terminations' on blogger - and I have used both.
