.us tld at search engine

Is .us tld good at search engines in general? I mean, could I beat the .com of the same domain?

lets say I want to create a site/blog about a game and I found the domain which is the actual game title but only .us is available. Any chances that my .us domain name will be ranked at google.com? or will it be ranked at google.us only?

    Thanks.

I believe with proper SEO and good content a .us will outrank a .com. Some things to consider are the inbound links and the age of the other sites. You can always use Compete.com to compare the sites.

Morgan Linton is a developer of domains in different tlds.. He has one article at http://www.domainvestors.tv/which-tlds-are-the-best-for-seo/, which he somewhat talks about your question.

Unless things have changed, I believe you need a US address to get a .US tld

The article and the comments seem to be very informative about the .us tld. However, I find that my .net and .com sites rank better for the keyword in the domain with less promotion efforts than .info and .us sites. I'm hoping that the .us theory comes true, as there seems to be more domains available with that extension.

.us looks like you are targeting for geo specific visitors. You can beat and TLD if you done your SEO properly. Onsite and offsite optimization will help you beat up other tlds and your competitors.

Personally, I would opt for a slightly less than ideal domain name with a .com TLD over a great domain name with a .us TLD any day. It shouldn't matter when ranking in Google.com from an SEO perspective. But users will likely view domains w/.us TLDs as less legitimate than their .com counterparts, so even if you DO manage to rank well, your click-thru-rates will likely suffer because of the .us TLD. And webmasters will be less likely to link to .us domains IMO for the same reasons. So getting natural links will be harder than with a .com.

    But that's just me.
