If you not into playing the latest PC games, then buying an Intel Core 2 Duo will be fine.

Hey you can get a Intel Dual core processor as it would be just used for surfing and photo editing.

    Get Intel E5200 Proccy.

I highly recommend Intel Core 2 Quad over Core 2 Duo. My Core 2 Duo E6600 and Core 2 Quad Q6600 hardly has few dollars in difference since the price drop and the increase in the performance was absolutely worth the upgrade. I mean I upgraded all of my C2D's to quads after all, it is really worth it in my opinion. :)

Not true, the quad will multitask much better. If it's a family computer you will probably switch users often, you'll need the Quad to run everyones processes. Plus the Quads are better for photo editing but the i7's will run PS like no other. If you want wait for the i7 to drop in price.

Nahh... I have both type of processors and don't find much different at all in a real time even for multitasking process.

Yes it is true to go for the latest processor is the best option, but it is better to spend the other thing for other hardwares instead of just focusing on the processor alone.

Any processor that is released recently will cost you a fortune and will make a big hole in your pocket but at the same time, one should not purchase an outdated one. Hence, make a judicious choice between the purse and the performance.

    Well said

I7 would be good, but u need complete new setup including new type mobo, GC and rams to make it work .... but all this add up will cost me bomb (just cpu will cost me min 1000 with basic I7 basic setup) , so prefer one or two step lower processor ....

Now is quad or dual is my main option :)

Why not buy a Mac? You did not mention cost that's keeping you from buying a new one. Also saves you the hassle, mostly, and more secure against viruses, trojans and the likes.

Photo editing is great on a Mac too!
