That's probably why then, when an editor reviews the page they can see any changes made. If you're changing competitors links and adding your own it's logical that they'd see that as spam.

I never changed a competitors link at first, I placed my link and I didn't alter my competitors links at all. I only made a slight change to one link, after my link was taken done over and over again (Probably around 10 times) to see if the change I made would be corrected, which it was.

After awhile whoever was removing my link just gave up.

I still think it's pretty unlikely thet you competetor is hanging around Wikipedia making sure people don't add links to the page.

Some maybe, but I've had links from there show up in my backlinks so certainly not all.

I can understand why they get annyoyed, the amout of webmasters that spam them, I guess even if they were all nofollow people would still post their own links there.

We added a few into the links to the listings in our niche. I would say we recieve about 1,500 hits monthly from wikipedia.

However, our site is an authority site for the niche so we don't have to worry about the moderators removing the links.

I've contributed to articles with relevent content from my site and the next person to edit always removes my link and edits the content somewhat... very annoying.

My rugby forum was added as well (not by me) but then again, if you search for rugby forum we are top or second on google.com, so I guess it deserves to be there :)

I haven't had much luck with them keeping my links either. You can also use A-Bug.com for a web-based proxy, works just as well I'm sure :D

thats the way guys, totally screw up a great resource so you can get free backlinks. Honestly spammers piss me off no end, get a life, and do the bloody job prorperly. Why screw up a great resource like Wikipedia for your own gain? Have you no shame?

Hey heres a better idea, go into selling drugs, or pimping I hear you can make money even quicker at that.

I hope your computers are infested by a thousand viruses and your ear holes turn into arseholes and shit all over your best threads (Old Welsh curse ) ;)

Can you tell I am anti spamming :D

I think relevancy is the key. I've got a couple of links, but I made sure I linked to useful, relevant articles. My site doesn't sell anything either.

Mine has adsense on it too, no problem. As long as it is useful, no one will remove it unless your competitor...

Absolutely, as I said, my rugby forum is in there, but it is a admn good rugby resource. Commercial inmplications don't come into it really if the site is relevant it will be allowed. The difference is though that you should actually contribute to the resource rather than self promote. Ask yourself. Does my site being incuded make the resource a better place?

In most cases you would be better adding the information you have gathered to the wiki page yourself rather than linking to your site. Obviously this won't get you links and clicks but its the proper way to do it.

    There is no add option.

You have to edit the page area where you have to add the link.
The complete page can be edited but the editors there would remove the link i suppose.
