    Couple post below yours there is a thread going comparing Cold Fusion With Other Languages that might give you also why cold fusion is powerful and why many don't use it:

    I began using it because not many people did, plus I felt it was easier to use than some others, It 'clicked' easier, Adobe have a massive support knowledge base for it.

    Plus if you create a good script people will have to learn CF before they can try and nick it off you.

    I also think its more secure than other languages (although I may be wrong) there are not many 'How to hack a coldfusion site' tutorials out there but try to look for the same in asp or php and there are loads that tell you how to...

    Hi,

    That's true !
    There are very few people who learn ColdFusion.
    I have also started to learn it.
    I hope in future it will also get good response from market.

    Great arguments man! :) Some people today say to me that CF is "whatever", but many of them probably never tried it and some don't even give me good arguments why CF is bad for them.

    The worst argument against ColdFusion that I've heard of may be that it's not for free... actually the the platform is quite expensive. But as I realized the support is really massive as borojim wrote. I like the fact that it goes very well with all the other Adobe products.

    I say, that good stuff is never cheap or for free.

    I also believe that when it comes to safety, the less amount of people are dealing with the language, the the bigger is the safety.

    What do you think?

    I totally agree Adobe CF can be expensive ( for Enterprise) often Standard Edition will be fine. Actually most people I know are using standard and its about $1200ish.

    There are also 2 excellent Open Source and Free CFML engines:

    Open Blue Dragon: http://www.openbluedragon.org/

    I believe that coldfusion has many benfits. I believe in my experience that application developement can be cut by up to half, or perhaps even more by using it. ColdFusion has many features that take one line of code to run, as opposed to languages like PHP, and ASP.

    There are many reasons why all languages have benfits. Most people hate the fact that cf cost so much. But what most people realize is that CF has a free develpers edition and web hosting for CF can be found for around $10.00 a month.

    ColdFusion enables charts on the fly. Flash forms on the fly, and so much more. Give it a try

    To show you an example of how awesome CF is this is all you need to run a query in cf

    <cfquery datasource="dsname" name="qName">
    SELECT * FROM [table] WHERE 1;
    </cfquery>

    coldfusion makes integration with a lot of languages very easy. Its also script based and CF9 is bringing in a lot of features to quickly build web 2.0 apps. It also integrates with flex and air

    I write CF for my day job and love it. However, for personal projects I'll stick with PHP. I'll admit I know nothing about the open source engines, but I'm not real open to spending a lot of time looking at them either when I'm already very comfortable with PHP. In addition, while you can probably find half decent hosting for it for $10 a month or so, I've been with DreamHost for over 3 years now and love 'em. I'm not really in the market to have to move all my sites to another host.
