    I can see it would cost your thousands and thousands... as "free proxy" is too general and there are a lot of site owners paying to do the same like you.

    There are one million searches/month for 'free proxy'. You will pay a lot in either money or time to get a site to the #1 spot for this keyword.

    Above, djingel mentioned the cost of spots 1-3 in Google AdWords is about 50 cents. This is MUCH better value for money than SEO will be. For now, go with AdWords. It's cheaper.

    You can get it free if you're willing to work for it :). You can also pay for a top spot with Google Adwords. I'm sure you'd have to work hard and fork out some dough to get a natural position in Google for "free proxy". There must be something easier to go after. Some sort of long tail?
