cheesy - same age as me started - if your looking to enter contests i think the best advice is start on here then move to 99 designs - but be the most aggressive b*tch you can be - push the contest holder and push them more - make your work show before their eyes over and over and over - your out to make money no one else matters if someone makes a change to their design improve yours and resubmit over and over until you win!

You got skills, man. Have you tried making templates for popular scripts like vbulletin or joomla?
Lots of people are looking for skin designers.

gordon08 - i dont know programming so its a little hard - i tried using artisteer but it seems it doesnt support joomla 1.5 - well the version i got it dont else i would go into that - i was planning on making a load of plr joomla templates but without a peice of software to do the programming cant get very far.

Hey your works amazing! I'm also just a Web Designer, but I wish I had good coding skills then I could've made more money... but still Designing is better than coding, right?! :D

How old were you when you started? I was about ... 11 - 12ish ... been designing for 3 years I'm 15 now coming 16 soon!, I'm still learning new ways to improve and hopefully I'll learn more complex coding... :) .

Although Neil's designs aren't really to my personal taste (as i've told him before ;)) the standard has certainly improved since he first came onto DP and obviously from 7 years ago as well. It doesn't really take much to improve once you begin looking at the world around you and at other examples all over the web. You don't have to copy them, just get influence from them. At the end of the day, it might take a bit of your time to improve to the standard where you'll win lucrative clients but you will certainly get there and reap the rewards if you are willing to put the work in. Myself and Neil have, you can too ;)

Yeah getting extra work from contest holders is one of the reasons I enter them in the first place. I only ever enter them when my actual client work is completed - would be a fool to do work that MIGHT pay when you have guaranteed high-paying work sat there waiting. Yeah I noticed your entered contests number was quite high, was surprised ya had the time!
