I see some affiliates advertise on news sites.

Have you do that? How about the traffic?

    Thanks in advance.

It all depends. People go to a news site to read the news. You don't know what they are interested in or what they need. If your ad appeals to them they might click on it. In other words, its a shot in the dark. If your ad is in the right place at the right time, you can get some traffic.

So it would bring quality traffic to your site. People have interest, then they would click your advertisement. If they think it is a good deal, they will pay.

If news sites are categorized, why not? However, if people looking for medicine news will see forex ads they are not likely to click on it.
