Although there are many important steps to take when implementing a successful online business, I've decided to point I three that are important for me, and may also help you.

    1. Don’t be in a big hurry to accomplish everything all at once:
Take your time and cover all of the bases with setting up your advertisement methods appropriately. By taking the time to dot your I’s and cross all of your T’s, you will develop great efficiency when it comes to conducting your daily tasks. You won’t miss out on anything in the long run by being thorough from the start.

    2. Build opt-in marketing lists:
Building an opt-in list is one of the most valuable things you can do for yourself. Whenever you refer someone to, or sell a product through your online source, always get your client’s name and email address. By doing this, you are building a solid foundation for future advertisements and sales.

    3. Develop a scheduled routine, and stick to it:
In almost every facet of life where you can observe a successful system at work, whether it is in nature, or business, you will notice established cycles and routines. When building an internet business, the same principles must be applied. Ancient Egypt was not built in a day. The pyramids didn’t just pop-up overnight. It’s important to establish a scheduled routine and maintain a constant vigilance in maintaining it

One of the first things that goes up on any domain I aquire is a contact form to generate leads. My dating site has generated thousands of leads because I have a free sign up form. It does nothing more than save contact information. So when I finally develop, or sell the site it already has thousands of emails and potential customers ready to market to.

I agree that people still underestimate the value of opt-in email lists.

I would say this is a sound advice. Doing the repetitive and boring things (e.g. building back links) is part and parcel of internet marketing. And I believe many of us here possess the right skills and knowledge to succeed in IM, so long as we can stick to the routine job schedule.

A lot of people build lists and then don't DO anything with them - they just feel good seeing the numbers in aWeber! To make money, you have to build a relationship with them and promote to them!

Should I try opt in emails if I am doing affiliate marketing and trying to drive traffic to my landing pages? Or is that just something I should do if I was the one selling the product?

If I were to give the order of these steps (not necessarily importance, since they are all important), I would list them in this order.

    1. Don’t be in a big hurry to accomplish everything all at once.
    2. Develop a scheduled routine, and stick to it.
    3. Build opt-in marketing lists. No matter what, in the end I always try to keep building that list. Keeping following up.
