Twitter down - Attacked by DOS

Here's the conformation from twitter : http://status.twitter.com/ Due to this now facebook is facing problem as huge traffic shifted to it.

I'm surprised a website the size of Twitter can't deal with DOS attacks. Hopefully, if Google buys them they'll be able to sort this out.

 

ah! now this is what actually happened. twitter has become so much of an addiction that not having it around is becoming difficult to deal with


but I somehow don't understand how Facebook would be an alternative [temporary].. FB and twitter are like chalk and cheese i'd imagine.

 

Ohhh, so that's why twitter wouldn't load for me today. :O Thanks for sharing! Really surprised they are not able to take care of something like this so quickly, after all, they are huge.

EDIT: I noticed how fast Google indexes threads on DP now, I mean this thread was just posted less than 30 minutes ago, but it now shows up under Google search.. o.o

 

Still down for me must be getting attacked still.

 

I was wondering why it was down before. So someone is DDOSing them... How come nobody ever brought down Google.com?

 

Maybe because Google has hundreds of servers powering them all load balanced.

 

Why they can't fix it? Those are very famous and big sites in the world.

Treyno - I'd like see the twitter guys handle the situation and see if they come up to scratch or not rather than have google handle the situation.

why do people actual do that? cause damage for no reason, mindless assholes who have nothing better to do i suppose.

 

Twitter is a free site and people hack them for no reasons.that is very shamefull.

 

Wow really surprised by this news. Young script kiddies ddos it for fun.

 

i dont think script kiddies can take down such a big site like twitter unless twitter servers suck

 

Big popular sites like Twitter are bound to go down from time to time.. what's alarming is the length of time needed to bring the site back up.

 

About time they invest some more on their site's stability. After this though, I'm sure they've learned their lesson.
