$2,000 Contest - Wordpress/Blog Design!

I just held a contest here on DP last month and paid out $1,000 to the winners. It was very successful for me so I thought I would host another one and give the fantastic designers here a chance to win some more cash for doing what they love to do.

Make sure you read everything below and remember it whilst designing.

REQUIREMENTS

I need you to design me an awesome, colourful, cartoon style wordpress theme that I will use for my personal blog. I want you to let yourself loose on this, let your creativity run free and create something fun and unique for me, whilst still keeping the work looking professional and of a high standard.

I want a mascot created that will basically be me (a cool character =p), I want him holding a pool cue in his right hand with a rolex watch on his left wrist, listening to music in a UFC t shirt and him involved in a scene that you will design for the header, maybe in a pool room leaning on a table with a TV playing UFC (ultimate fighting) or something like that, revolve the theme around these things: money, pool, ufc, sports cars, movies, music and the internet.

• Size should be around 1000x1000 but can be bigger.
• Mascot must be created and be unique.
• Logo must be created and be unique (Marty's Blog).
• Design must be fresh and creative but organized at the same time.
• Must have space for advertisements.
• Must have great navigation with hover effects and maybe icons representing the categories on the blog.
• Must have a cool footer for links and maybe latest posts etc, with the mascot sitting down there or something funky.
• Must be fully coded by the time I recieve the theme, if you can't code, find somebody who can.

PRIZES

The winner will take $2,000 unless I get a number of great designs and find it hard to choose just one, and then I'll split this into multiple prizes. The winner will take $1,000 and then the other $1,000 would be split between the the other winners that I pick. I'll probably announce what's going to happen with this further into the contest once I start seeing some entries.

SOUND OFF

• All work must be unique, I don't want to see any copied work here.

• I won't be picking a winner if I don't get any entries upto the standard I'm looking for since such a large amount of money is up here.
• I'll be going away August 15th and returning on the 22nd.

 

sounds like a wonderful contest.
just an advice, if you'd have multiple prizes, like something for the first, second runner ups,
or even third and fourth, then I THINK more people are likely to participate.
having said that, it is your contest and you are free to have it the way you want.

 

I can do this, but can you seperate the amounts please?

I mean :

Mascot: $100,Logo : $100, etc ??

Please ..

 

No sorry, I need it all designed together in one piece. If I seperated it like that then I'd end up with a jigsaw puzzle.

 

What, you mean like:

#1 - $1,000
#2 - $600
#3 - $400

Something like that, instead of one winner taking the full $2,000?

well, take feedback from other designers, i think they'll agree.

I think Marty should wait to decide until the end of the contest.. depending on who enters and if there's enough good designs to award more prizes.

Thanks for the answer, i like to enter, i asked it because im not good in doing mascots. I do logos and others.

 

I'll do what Groffy said, I'll decide what's going to happen with the prizes once I start seeing some entries. If I get a number of high quality designs then I'll split the prizes, if not we'll just have one winner who will take the full $2,000.

I'll announce this later in the contest probably.

Another thing you can do to avoid ending up with a jigsaw puzzle of different components is to hold a contest for the logo first, then mascot to accompany logo, and then of course the main web site design. The web designers would then be able to base their designs around your logo and mascot. This would also probably get you the maximum number of participants rather than from a select few that are skilled in every area of design.

That's a good suggestion, I'll see how things go first before I decide to do this though, I'll create a new contest in a couple days if things don't go too well this way.

Okay, I'm going to post a new contest to just get the logo and mascot done first because it seems it would be better to have a website design created around this.

 

My entry is 90% Done, my friend has told me that he could make me a mascot. I'll be entering for the total $2000!
