Is vBulletin Really the Best forum script?

Discussion in 'vBulletin' started by Professional Dude, Jul 27, 2009.

Okay, So i have tried all free forum scripts, the problem is it's too long for Google to index those new thread pages, is there some kind of function in vBulletin that when a new thread or post is made, Google is pinned or atleast index the new thread?

For example this forum, every new thread is indexed very fast.

Can anyone tell me who uses vBulletin , are your threads getting indexed fast and are there any bugs? Do you recommend it?

    Thank You :p

there are many SEO Mods for each kind of forum software (free and paid).
    for example; vbSEO for vbulletin.

If you want your new topics indexed very fast by google you need really high pagerank ;)

And I think, that vBulletin is best forum script, there are really many features.
Free analogue to vbulletin is MyBB -check it :)

I use it and love it. I think you get what you pay for. I use Zoints SEO which rewrites the URL's and my pages get indexed fairly quickly, even being PR0.

By fairly quickly you mean in 10-20 min? If you don't mind, may I have a look at your forum through Pm.
    Cheers

You can get any forum indexed quickly if you have backlinks, it doesn't matter at all the forum script ;)

There are very few backlinks, and yea I understand I need more backlinks to get it indexed fast :p

but isn't there some kind of function that pings google like wordpress when a new post is made? for phpbb or vBulletin?

It's not because of the Vbulletin software it's because of the popularity of this forum !

There are numerous sites running on free forum softwares like Phpbb and Smf.
But then if you can afford Vb go for it ;)

Professional Dude - you have asked several very specific questions. It shows that you have concerns and questions before you purchase a product - which is good.

As for post getting indexed as soon as they are made, that also depends on the age of the site. Older forums get indexed faster then newer forums.

As for something pinging google and notifying it of new post - I do not know of anything like that. On large forums, do you really want your site pining google several thousand times daily? Thats going to take resources to ping google every time a post is made.

There is a free sitemap addon from vbseo that I highly recommend. With the sitemap I was able to get about 300,000 of may pages indexed. But I screwed something up for about 4 - 6 weeks and 270,000 pages were delisted. Everyday my forum builds 14 - 15 sitemaps with 49,000 urls in each on. Out of that 49,000 urls, only 4,000 - 8,000 are indexed.

Google is good at indexing a site, but its not perfect. Regardless of what you do, every page may not get indexed. I have seen vbulletin forums with 1.2 million post and only have 25,000 indexed pages. But I do not know if they were submitting a sitemap either.

As for comparing vbulletin with other software, I think its at the top of the list. Vbulletin being #1, IPB #2, smf and a few other in the 3, 4 and 5 range.

VBulletin is very poorly designed. The architecture doesn't seperate out the design template, the javascript code for on-page functionality and the PHP for DB queries. It is amazing it is as popular as it is still. Having said that I do run it because it has a few add ons I need. I'd recommend PHPBB for a small board though.

Personally, I think VBulletin is good though I use MyBB. It's easier for me to use then phpBB or SMF.

My 2 cents is: Any big forum i have ever participated in has been with VB. VB just seems easier to me, though i have used myBB before and it was neat and easy to use aswell.

I think that with all of the other stuff vb is starting to develop this is giving other forum softwares a chance to catch up. About 1-2 more years of vbulletin not working as hard on the forum software and you might see the free ones begin to surpass what vb can do altogether and you can tell by the author being concerned about this for even making this thread :)
