    no dp members.

do not put your alternative email address. means if you put your old gmail address in alternative email then gmail ask for phone verification.

if you not put a your old gmail address in alternative email address then gmail do not ask for phone verification and instantly your gmail account is activated :D

Google recently started requiring phone numbers on accounts that are being registered by the same IP address. Meaning that if you just create a single account you are probably not going to be prompted to enter a phone number, however if you create 2-5 accounts all at once your going to have to enter a phone number.

If you already had created gmail accounts you will not be affected, only for newly created accounts.

Google keeps track of IPs. Every IP can only create 10 gmail accounts. Warning signs of this may be the multiple incorrect captchas no matter how you correctly type it.

I played a little with this phone verification and I came to a conclusion ...

Its not about cookie or IP (I think so) its about writing captcha right the first time or invitation (from other gmail acc.) but I think more about captcha getting the right first :)

    Have fun :p

The reason is because.... you leave your secondary email blank.

if you do not fill the secondary email, it will ask you your phone number to verify your account through sms.
but if you put a secondary email, it will not ask you for your phone number. you can just verify/activate your account using the secondary email you set.

    cleared?

Now thats a real tricky move by gmail ;)

Someday, google will make phone number compulsory for users. It already has a lot of interference in our machines(via google desktop), in our social lives(by means of orkut as whatever we enter is saved in server of google), and now we will be giving our mobile numbers to google.

That will suck when that day comes -- things like gmail inferno will stop working.

You should clear your cookies anyway, have you tried through a proxy? If you use an ssl enabled one you should be OK, I use those to get an (at)gmail instead of (at)googlemail, works for me.
