    Hello mates...

I'll write here my situation, and you guys will try to explain if it's right...

I'm trying to Rank #1 in a keyword who has something about 650k monthly searches...

    I'm about in 4-5 spot...but it's ok...

The problem is THE FIRST RESULT...

    Lets see...

1- Both sites (mine and first spot) has the "normal SEO": titles, URLs, Metatags and these things optimized.

2- My main page has about 650 backlinks at google. The First Spot's Main Page has 0 backlinks at Google. YES! 0! 0!!!!! ZERO! CERO! NADA!

3- My main page has about 27.000 backlinks at yahoo. The First Spot's Main Page has 22 backlinks at Google (-.-)

4- My website has PR 3. The First Spot Site has PR 1.

5- My page of the desired Keyword has 41 backlinks at Google. These backlinks are from my own site (about half), and the other half is backlinks coming from Articles Sites and Blog Commenting in PR pages.

The page of the First Spot has 1 backlink at Google. And it's from a inner-page of a PR-0 directory.

6- If you do "Site:mysite.com" in Google, it shows about 2.000 results. If you do "Site:thefirstspot.com" in Google, it shows about 200 results.

THE ONLY THING MY WEBSITE LOSTS IS:

My site was created in February, 2009.
The first spot was created in November, 2007

    So, now comes the question...

Is 'Site Age' really so Strong for SERP?

Site age is very important to google SERPs. It is both fortunate and unfortunate, as the older pages that deserve top spots often get the top spot, but newer sites find it harder to compete.

The good news is that if you've beaten them in all other SEO metrics, it shouldn't be much longer until you take over their positions.

I think if a site has been top of a popular search for many years longer then yours then it's tough to get past it.
I've found when a website hits 2 years old then you're really in the competition.

But with Google there always seems to be exceptions to their rules, so keep on working on it.

Google consider 200 factors while ranking a site. PR is only one factor among the others.

A PR 0 site can outrank PR 5 site.

Age is only important if a site has continuously provided excellent content and that the site got quality backlinks which in your case, is not applicable.

How long has this site been on the top?

I think it matters big time. On my blog, which has been around for a while, I can get a blog post on the front page of Google in a couple of hours for medium-competitive search terms (3-4 word phrases). It may not stay there forever.

It's simple, you are really the number 1 position, but enough time hasn't passed yet. I hope you understand what I am saying. You have done everything you need too, but your site just needs to spend a little more time in the index.

PM if you want and I will take a closer look.

but if your site is rerally a good one --keep on
after all, young could getting mature

    Thats a pretty good research.
Yes, domain age plays a major role in SERP.
But the way you are going, it'll take a little time to displace that #1 site with yours.

Hope everybody has cleared your doubts - besides the site age,is the site big ??Because i have seen bigger sites [with massive amount of content] gain a great authority - iam sure about this.

I'm in the same boat, most of our sites are newer, so I'm hoping that Google places less importance on site age in the future with their alghorythm.

Yes, I think that age is one of the factors that determine a page's SERP. There are other factors of course, but this is one of the essential things that search engines observe.

looks like I'm disagreeing with almost everyone here, IMO no, its not that important.

IMO its not very important at all, if they really use it as a ranking factor at all, and if it's only a year or 2 older than yours its entirely do-able.

just because they have a patent on something doesn't mean they are using it, Google have a lot of patents, theyre not using them all.

IMO the age of sites that link to you, and the IBLs themselves, is considerably more important.
