Something has to change with General Chat

Is anyone else sick of seeing posts like 'what did you have for breakfast?', 'what are you doing right now?', and 'how long do you like your hair?'???

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like you don't have to put any thought into creating a thread anymore!

I think I'll make a new thread...'What's your post count?' or 'what's your favourite letter in the alphabet?'

I think you get the point.

    Kevin.

Crazy Rob would routinely delete all the crap threads but he hasn't been as active with that task recently.

I don't visit the General Chat forum because there's really no value in it for me.

I would need to jam a sewing needle in my ear and use it to scramble my brains around before most of those threads became even the least bit relevant.

if someone went in and deleted all the crap threads, how many threads will get started about people complaining that their post counts has suddenly dropped? ;)

It's General.. It is the only place where users get to interact freely. So I think there should be this much freedom. Only unacceptable thing is duplicate posts and spam.

Most large forums have a kind of hang out area for pointless talk.
It might be an idea to impose some kind of prerequesite on people being able to post in GC - say they need to have 100 meaningful posts (outside The Digital Point) before they're allowed.

I agree ! If someone doesn't likes that then don't go to General Chat section !

General things refer to that type of things only.

I suggested this previously and I'll suggest it again: Set those forums as posts not counting towards your post count. Ditto for the introduction subforum. Let them post all they want. It's all for moot.

I stopped posting in the Introduction subforum this morning after noting someone mentioning that you can get banned for answering in there.

I totally agree with that. If that were the case you probably wouldn't get all the useless junk, but rather some interesting and meaningful threads.

I know I don't have to go to the General Chat section, and I don't. The only reason I see the GC posts is because I like using the New Posts function to see what the buzz is on any given day.

Currently i think general chat is flodded with many stupid stuff threads.
But i think it is the only place for members to free up there mind, bcoz members are very feared when they post in other section (specially in BST)

What you could do is not count posts made in the GC forum ;)

Seconded- do not let posts in GC count towards your overall post count.

At least half of the stupid threads in there will disappear.

The entertainment section within GC is filled with too much local stuff too.

These are the "real" things to be talked about in GC. You cannot talk about your daily routine in BST, please!!

I have no problem with the 'real' things...but I think most people here don't care what colour your eyes are or what your shoe size is (don't know if these threads already exist...but they probably will soon enough).

I actually enjoy the ones that have opinions (ie. Fav movie)

Remove post counts from the GC.

It's an easy way to up your posts and gain access to the BST or look more trusted.

That is the reason why it is called "General Chat".
You can discuss anything and everything there.

The admin is not a big fan of the P&R sub forum here. It exists for a reason which i guess you know. GC has its own flavor. I love it.

You can remove post counts from GC if you want as Peter said.
    Not many would complaint.

Its all a matter of opinion...and I hate it!

I just saw a thread that was asking if I was playing basketball. I think the answer would be fairly obvious that I'm not playing basketball...I'm looking at your thread wasting valuable seconds of my life!
