Image/Text ads not that effective? Confused

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by dp2009, Jul 22, 2009.

I have image/txt ads on my site, but I believe image ads are not that relevant and I am thinking changing to all text ads.
    1. Google seems say image/txt ads get better CPM, right?
    2. Will all txt ads have lower CTR, and get smart-priced? Image ads has lower CTR requirement?
    3. Is lower CTR causing image show more on the ads for image/txt ads?

I asked this question before. I have link unit as well, the CPC is so low compared to text links, but about 10% revenue. I am thinking removing it, will that help smart-pricing and overall revenue?

Due to my niche, my ads are not that very relevant, link unit does provide some interesting links... but CTR is low, CPC is even lower.. sigh

    Thanks a lot

Well, Image ads are effective but you don't get much on each click.
While if you get a click on your text ad you will get more than Image ad.
Haven't tried Link ads till now.

The CTR depends on where and how well you place your ads and generally image ads are less likely to be clicked when compared to text ads. In my own experience, text ads blended with contents fare better.

Since I use AdWords to promote some things, I know that image ads, normally, cost less. Where some text ads, for instance, will be 5-10 cent, image ads, on average, will be 1-3 cent worth, because image ads are shown only in the Content Network which is much cheaper to get ads on.

Text ads bring in more revenue. Unless banner ads come from some big company they are not effective and cheap. Link units are good and profitable. Visitors like them for whatever reason.

Thank you for sharing, more experience here, very confused
    1. I set it to all text ads today. I am sure it is now all text, but earnings increase a cent or two, still.... I know it happened before due to image ads, but how come it is still happening?
    2. Link unit 1 click has same percentage as other ads (GOOD), but the 2nd click is only about 30%(BAD), and CPC, is about 30% of other ad unit (BAD) as well. Not sure if this caused smart pricing..
    3. I saw ONE text ads occupy position for TWO or FOUR ads on my bigger ad blocks.. WHY? Are those pay more CPC?

    Thanks.

do not depend on anyone's advice - it is better to see the ads that appear for your niche.post the image and text ads and see for yourself if the ads are relevant - select the units which show the most relevant. As you said, the link units give the most relevant ads when other ads are not so relevant - i agree. But yes placing them would give high CPC but little valued clicks. If you aim for more money then sticking with the high CTR units is the best.

for me text ads pay more so i converted to text only ads. If your CTR is really low try to get some good CPM network and have the text ads from adsense.

I think combination of both text and image link is better than only text ads.
