Funny you're the one to talk when trying at a pathetic attempt to flame failed. Don't undermine designers because of their age. Young designeres may be the new world saving group of designers who bring about new themes, changes, and quality work. Practice does help. As far as most of you can tell without a picture, a person may be any age they want.
Well it's probably fair to say that $50 as a prize is not brilliant, but I do think it's worth 100 times more than than some of the entries here. As I said earlier in this thread, I've seen some great logos in contests here for only $20 or so... Logos that I would be happy with - I've obviously been unlucky on this occasion. People might think I've been harsh with some comments but I don't see the need to tell someone their design was 'good, but not what I'm looking for' when it is quite blatantly a load of rubbish that has been thrown together inside five minutes. Everyone is familiar with corporate logos, they are totally ubiquitous. So when I ask for one, and someone comes on here and post some horrendous 3D text in Comic Sans with the worst gradient imaginable and a symbol taken from Photoshop's custom shapes, it's quite difficult to offer feedback when you know that the person simply is not good enough to improve on the garbage that they've already submitted. To try and analogise it, imagine if I went to a record company or talent contest and started singing tunelessly in the voice of Stephen Hawking, and forgot all the words, and hadn't washed for three days. I'd get ridiculed and laughed at, and rightly so for thinking I could waste their time when I obviously have no talent that relates to that particular industry. And then after they laughed their asses off, I asked them what I could do to improve.. On this forum it's not just design either. If you try and get someone to write content for you it usually ends up like it's written by a pre-schooler, or by someone who barely speaks English/knows anything about the subject matter (which is probably the actual the reason). 99% of the e-books sold here are garbage. "Oh Hey, This Ebook Can Make You $10,000 A Week (even though I've only ever made enough money to buy this domain name and pay some Ethiopian to write me an Ebook for 3 dollars)" And so on..
Capricious, there's ways to say things, ok ok, if it wasnt good or even if it wasnt what you did expected... you just dont write those rude words to people saying what you said... even if it is crap or not, people did tried and in fact spent time for it... and in the end...people get hurt by words related to their work... rubish or not... they spend their time doing it... i do understand them, because i would probably feel hurt as well if it was with me. Creativity isnt allways there when you want... and as in here you find low cost contests... there's of course designs and content that arent 100% perfect... but that doesnt give u the rigth to be rude to them... as in fact good or bad, the thing is ... they tried! I guess i made my point here, my english isnt 100% as i am portuguese but hope you to understand what i am saying...
I believe you are referring to me. First that wasn't a custom shape, second, That is really the worst gradient you've seen? You could say something like "not good, thanks though." There is no need to lower yourself to such levels. So who here besides this @$$ thinks my work is garbage?
I think this topic should be closed by a moderator.. there's no reason to allow this bickering to continue. Also I'm new to this site and already it seems pretty clear to me that most of the people here are rude stuck up designers who think they are better than everyone else because they're older or have degrees.
I agree, i just felt inclined to defend myself when i randomly get mentioned. please let this board die now, thanks.
Not that you have been unlucky. But the CH who got great logos just for $20 and all have been very polite. What's wrong in people posting their logos? Be it professional or not. It may give some ideas to some other professional designers which you may like. You haven't paid anyone and not going to pay all those who participated. But they are wasting their time for you. So you can be polite to them even if their work is not good. Am not a great designer. But when I read your comments, I decided not to start working for you. This may be the same feel many good designers have got and it resulted in.... no good logo you expect...
agree... this is contest thread after all. Any out of topic should be discussed in the relevant thread in my opinion. Chill out all
Well this guy^ sort of proves my point doesn't he? While his submission is one of the better ones, he obviously hasn't read any of the thread or else he'd know this contest was closed.. Yes, they are. But they are the people I want to enter my contests; design students looking to make some extra cash for the summer, professional designers that have been effected by the recession etc. Not someone from the slums of Pakistan spending 30 seconds on a logo (using his illegally downloaded version of Photoshop - because come on, how many of you here have actually paid for it?) because he thinks that adding a gradient and a bevel effect to some text constitutes a professional logo design.
Who is this mug? Been a member for less than a month and goes around requesting closures for threads that he hasn't even participated in. Get a hobby.
He doesn't. What did you loose just because he posted in this thread? At least your topic came in top again and some more designers would have noticed your contest. His submission would be useful at least in this way if you don't like his design. This becomes so bad. You don't have any rights to talk about any country. I am from India. Though, I don't like you talking like this about Pakistan. Why do you want to talk only about Pakistan slum? Are they so cheap to you? There are slums all over the world even in US and many European countries. But you won't talk about those slums and all. Till now, you was just arrogant... but now, I feel you are being a racist too.
Another pathetic attempt at a flame failed. You should learn to be nicer to the others who submit instead of demeaning them child. Please do not try to be something you aren't. Treat designers with respect, and maybe they'll consider giving you quality work. Many designs on here are good, you just have no taste. I'm new to these forums, but I have been on forums for years. Don't underestimate me child.
I agree with Capricious in some points of this discussion, and i might understand what his saying. But,i think this quote is little too much. Capricious,i would like to know how much time you spend doing this: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=837516
