Kontera and AdSense is not allowed! Joel Comm lies to sell!

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by Sohan, Aug 1, 2006.

    Hey,

I'm on Joel Comm's mailing list, and recently he told us we can use Kontera with AdSense.

When I asked google I got this:

So he's lying to sell his book "Kontera secrets"!

    Regards,
    Sohan.

Kontera is the same as Vibrant Media's IntelliTXT, and I've been using IntelliTXT on the same site as Adsense for half a year. You ask three Adsense reps and I'll bet they'll give you 3 different answers.

Doubtful. Comm knows the rules. My guess is that the one who answered you didn't know the rules. I'd email them again and I bet a second guy will tell you a different answer.

Mr Comm has made a lot of money from adsense and has probably taught a few on the way, albeit charging a hefty fee for his ebooks. I think he knows the rules alright!

One should choose their words more carefully when such words could be construed as "slander", friend.

I've been using Kontera with AdSense for well over a year with no conflict.

Check out the discussion on these forums.

I've been asked by a person to use Kontera on their site, as soon as I mentioned that I heard Google Adsense wasn't allowed to be used with Kontera they stopped replying to me...

What have you heard about Adsense and IntelliTXT, Joel? If Kontera is allowed/denied, then it would surely apply to IntelliTXT as well, as they are both identical in every way.

They pretty much say in that thread

"Kontera is not allowed". Nothing about ad blocks or links, whatever.

You're making it sound a lot more clear cut than the situation actually is, Dekker. I've already emailed Adsense myself, and I'll have to go back and forth with them about this to be absolutely, positively SURE. You can NEVER take the first reply you get from them as a certainty; once you challenge their initial response, they'll take the question "upstairs" (as the saying goes) and the answer will either change or get murky -- i.e. they are no longer certain.

Well it'd be nice to know, however I have a feeling that if your site is doing something Google doesn't really like they can use this as an excuse to ban you.

This is very odd since as far as I know those are contextual programs because the ads are actually based on keywords in text.

It is nice that people are comfortable saying that it is okay, but I wouldn't take that advice, because it is fundamentally in opposition to one of Google's core tenants for the Adsense program.

If someone can provide a Adsense rep explanation as to how Kontera and Intellitext are not considered contextual advertising, I would love to see it. Until then, I wouldn't advise anyone to do it, regardless of who else is doing it or telling you it is okay.

You would be foolish to take the word of another publisher over Google themselves. Joel Comm is not going to reimburse you for a lifetime of Google earnings if he is mistaken.

There have many large sites use Kontera with AdSense.
    It's against TOS.
