hmmm Seems like penalty if your site is old enough.

If your website is pretty new it is normal as it is google dance.

Check how many pages on your website indexed in google by

    site:your web url

How old is the domain? If new then when was it first indexed? Which URL? Which keyword phrase?

It could be a LOT of things... If it's a new site it might simply be that the "Google Honeymoon" is over... If it's an old site then Google might simply have made a change to their ranking algorithm... You might have lost a few high PR links or lots of links from a single site... Perhaps you are penalized... Who knows?

Without knowing the URL in question, the keyword phrase, the history of your backlink profile, the history of changes to the page, etc. everyone is simply throwing out wild guesses which should be treated as such.

Do link building for your site. Use highly targeted keywords in title, description and in content of site.
social bookmarking will help you to get ranking and traffic quickly.
Try to get more and more back links so you can get your ranking back.

There is your answer right there. Do not expect steady rankings until your site is at least 1 year old. And even after 1 year, it can still float around.

Has it been indexed 3 months? Or the site has been up for 3 months? If it has only been indexed a few weeks the it sounds like the Google Honeymoon is over... From one of my previous posts explaining the Google honeymoon:

3 month old site can really experience those kind of situations or instances. And it is common to almost all those new sites. The best way to do here is to make your site more reliable for a search engine to get you noticed. Make your site more informative, build links and get some good content.
